I need help. Please the photo of the pool in courtyard next to patio. Patio is raised. Pool is raised too. The height of pool is same as height of patio. Is that how it should have been or pool should have been flushed to the ground so its' a step down from patio. The pool builder never asked us and he built it this way. He says if pool is flushed to the ground and Patio is higher, it's a hazard as someone can trip and fall into pool as pool is close to patio.

Now the whole backyard needs to be raised. Landscaper says need to fill the space around the pool and between pool and patio, so that every thing is at the same level.

We plan to have artificial turf around the pool. However in the back once artificial turf ends, last 5 feet will be flower beds and small trees and now they will be stop down as rest of the back yard will be raised. Even the space behind the master bedroom on the left of the picture and kitchen on the right of the picture will be a step down.

Will it look weird?

If every thing is at same level and if it rains heavily, will pool water go into the house through patio.

Now we have spend more to raise the backyard.

Can not dig up whole pool otherwise that will cost lot of time and money.

Pool builder says this is how it should have been built and thats why he built it this way without asking us or letting us know.

I hope I am able to explain this correctly. Any suggestions or input?

I think your PB is mostly correct unless you specifically asked to have a step. Having said that, they should have left you enough fill dirt to deal with the grade change, maybe they will bring it back. I am not an expert on turf, but I think there will be gravel underneath that allows water to drain through the turf. Coping should be slightly sloped away from pool. Ask them if they intend to use any drains... again, with the turf you may not need them. On a paver/concrete patio, you would likely have drains to address the water. Does the house have gutters? I would suggest adding them if not.

From the one pic, it looks fine to me, will be interested to see what others say. For reference, as I was coordinating between my contractors, my paver guy specifically asked for my pool to be about 1/2" above the patio. He will slope away from the pool toward the house and have a linear drain all along the house to keep water out of the pool, I'll also have gutters and a roof section to keep rain from running into the pool.
 
I think you're going to eventually appreciate having the coping at the same level as the patio. Any concerns about water going this way or that way can be addressed with gentle slopes and a proper drainage plan. It's unfortunate that this was not discussed beforehand, or that a plan to manage the grading vs soil removal was not in place ahead of time. But that said, everything on one level is going to be great.
 
You should have a water management plan that includes drain strips between the pool and the house to channel water away from the pool and house.
 
I don't have the channel drains, just small round floor drains. They're fine. Channel drains would be fine, too. It's not something anyone notices, neither will you soon enough. I spend a ton of time and money on my landscaping. Most people don't even notice that.
