Robots don't require high energy pump electricity so you save cash. They're easier to fix or even replace which makes them cheaper than IFCS. The brush the walls. What's not to love??

We've read many a story here by pool owners who hate their IFCS. Something breaks and its a pain. Or they miss areas entirely. Or they just don't work that hot. AND they cost a fortune! That alone makes a robot a better buy, IMO.

I read by someone on here that they aren’t meant to be kept in the pool. I even read it to my husband but we couldn’t figure out why. We decided to get one anyway.
 
They can be left in. People do. Does it shorten it's life? Probably. By how much? Who knows, but some have left them in for many years.

You will see verbiage from Dolphin stating remove them and its ok to keep them in. Non-committal.

Thanks so much to all for taking the time to read and comment, really appreciate you and this forum! Thinking we'll save the IFCS money and complexity, and go robot, however we were told Polaris may be better for us due to leaves. We have some big trees close by and I'm sure we'll have plenty of leaves in the pool. Is that true that leaves may be a reason to go Polaris over robot?
 
I’ve had a Polaris cleaner for over 13 years and it does a great job. We have LOTS of trees and I really like that the debris bag on the Polaris is large enough to handle the load. I could be wrong, but I believe that the debris bag is larger than most, if not all, robots. That was definitely the case when I looked at robots several years ago and came to the conclusion that a robot just wouldn’t work for us. Things may have changed since then, though. I’m in the minority here, but I also like it being completely contained within the pool and remaining there all the time (unless removed for a party) with no extension cord laying across the deck. Like virtually all of my equipment, I never really give it any thought. I just enjoy the results.

I don't know that the basket o my Warrior Se is as large as a Polaris cleaner, but it does have a very large capacity. I also really like that I can use the really fine filter cartridges in the robot because our dogs drag alot of sand into the pool. I never owned a Polaris, so it may be just as good at getting out sand and finer debris. So far I am really impressed with the robot though.
