On Sunday, I installed my Loop-Loc solid safety cover on my pool. I did this because there are a significant number of leaves that are starting to get into the water. I didn't shut down the pool equipment since the water was still at 78F. In the last two days, it actually has risen to 79F. I don't want to close completely until the water temperature is in the low 60s. I have no idea when that will occur since this is my first season with a solid cover. This cover is preventing evaporative cooling and cold rainwater getting into the pool that I had with my previous mesh cover. Looking under the cover, it is pretty dark under there so FC should not be used up much. Also organics from swimmers and blown in debris are eliminated. Yet at the elevated current temperature, I don't want to risk any algae forming. The current FC is 8.5 ppm and CYA is 60 ppm.

Should I continue to keep the pool pump running a few hours per day just to keep the water mixed? Should I turn off the SWG and only turn it back on if the FC falls to 4 ppm? Once the pool water reaches 60F, I plan to shut down the pool equipment and close completely.

I would still operate the pump a couple hours a day and only have the SWG operate if chlorine levels drop. If FC stays consistent no need to add more especially since your cover is preventing chlorine loss from sun. Close the pool once the water temp drops and off you go.
Current water temperature in Southern Ontario a balmy 52F but no trees so cover is not on!

Maybe I shouldn't have put the cover on. When I did, the forecast was for 69F and rain. Now the forecast is 78F and low chance of rain. Without using a heater, the water temperature has increased from 78F to 80F. I guess I could pull back the safety cover and float in the open section.
