Correct hook-up for BW Valve

I was just told that my backwash valve is plumbed incorrectly. I would like to verify that before I have it "corrected." The connections from the top to bottom are: from pump, to pool, backwash discharge. To backflash you pull the slide handle up.
I was told that it should be push down to backlash. The filter is a Pentair Quad.

I should have added that the system functions as is. There are problems that I don't know are related. I get DE in the pool and some cavitation at the pump.

The QuadDE filter valve should be plumbed just like the Pentair TR sand filters. The waste is on the top and the return to pool on the bottom

Yes, it needs to be changed.

You should be plumbed as shown in Figure 3 on page 4.
