I was surprised. At ~3000 ppm, I could taste the salt. Not very salty. And I stopped being able to taste it after one mouthful. I thought we weren't supposed to be able to taste the salt...

I could taste it when we first added salt (~3200 ppm). A year later and I dont really notice it unless it is over ~3,600.

I can taste ours just slightly. But nothing compared to the ocean. We're fortunate to live where we go to the beach and dive frequently. So the pool almost tastes like drinking water to us!

I always ran low around 2800 and could never taste it. I overshot a little this year to 3200 and we taste it for the first time. Next time I’ll be careful to only add until the SWG is happy and then walk away like we discussed in the other thread.

Here's a little related trivia on this topic. My wife and I spent 6 years blue water sailing and water quality/supply became very important since we were mostly in pretty remote areas. The WHO recommendation was for potable water was 1100 ppm. Our on board RO water maker produced about 175. After years of this we couldn't stand any drinking water from the faucet due to chlorine and chloramines. Point is taste is a little relative and based on what you're used to. No pool water is really good to drink since most of it has over 1100 ppm salt so it's good that it tastes salty. We use an under sink RO unit to make our drinking water and it tastes great at about 15 ppm TDS.

I put salt in for feel. I could definitely taste it at 1800. So could most other people in my family. Now that it's about 2300, I can taste it stronger. Last year I had it at a lower level, and one of my daughter's friends said he didn't know we had a salt pool.

I can kind of taste it on the first dunk under water after that not so much... also when I first put new salt in to raise it after winter :)

I really taste it for a week or so after i do an addition. Generally i can tell it’s there just more so when i’ve just added a bag.

I don't taste any salt because I don't lick my pool!! S'crazytalk! Yes, the salt we added comes from the store. Need I remind you from where the other salt originates!! 👴👩‍🦳👨‍🦰👩‍🦱👶👧👱👩‍🦲👨👦

Drink the Kool Aid, not the pool!

Joshin', it's an interesting question. I expect it's different for each tongue. I never noticed it myself.

I definitely taste it. At 3k or 4k tastes the same to me. I have a goatee so i can't help but taste it as it runs through the facial hair. Tastes like sweat to me. Was in the ocean this weekend and whoa! Huge difference of course.

Well, I think from now on, I'll run as low as possible. I upped mine to 3200 ppm because of the recommendations here. I expect I'll be able to taste it at 2800.
