I just got my pool last week before the hurricane. Got back..turned on the pump, PB added chlorine and acid plus turned on the auto chlorinator. Now he cannot get it blue but says it will turn blue " one of these days". Its a greenish tinted the deeper ya go. Any advice? Thanks for any help!!

Yep -iron. For now it's only affecting the water, but if it continues it could also stain the pool or anything white. Iron reacts to chlorine. So you have some options:
1. Change the water with non-iron (well) water; probably not ideal right now.
2. Start using a good sequestrant. A sequestrant binds with the iron and keeps it in solution form so that it can't stain. Sequestrants weaken over time so it's something that has to be added periodically.
3. Use filtering methods as much as possible. Polyfill in the skimmer is quite common. Usually filtering out iron is most successful when the iron is precipitating out (angry mode). When it's contained and controlled, you may not capture as much.

Maintaining an accurate balance of FC to CYA is extremely important. Use your TF-100 for that and reference the FC/CYA Levels. Also keep your pH well controlled. A pH around 7.5 or slightly lower may help. Avoid the pool store for just about anything. Their testing will throw you off. Make sure to add "well water" to your signature too please.

I'm not sure that is what TX Splash meant. If you are trying to filter out the iron, I would hold off on the sequestrant as that will make it harder to filter out.

Correct. I was just explaining the options. Those would would not be done at the same time. But Scott, evaluate those options and let us know if you have more questions.

Why doesn't my Jandy CV 340 filter out the iron? Is there a special filter like the polyfill that fits in the Jandy filter? Maybe in 2 weeks its clogged with iron? I'm new and just trying to figure out how to get it out since my autorefill is from my well also. Thanks for the info.

Before you do too much though, looking back at post #1 with your test results, I would do two things:
1. Make sure you have stabilizer (CYA) in the water. You should have a CYA of at least 30, and in our TX summers usually more like 50. But a CYA of 40 may be a good compromise if you're worried about the end of summer. With too low of CYA, your FC, which is a bit elevated right now at 14, is extremely strong. That could be impacting the iron even more. So get some stabilizer in there and let the FC fall down to about 5-6. Then balance according to the FC/CYA Levels.

The other thing - lower the pH a bit more. Use some muriatic acid to lower the pH to about 7.4. Keep it under 7.5 for a while to see if those actions help reduce the iron reaction (green). If your iron content isn't too high, you may get lucky and the water goes clear. If not, you'll have to continue the polyfill and/or later go the sequestraunt route.

My CYA is 55.
Okay, good. Your Poolmath log didn't show any, so for a non-salt pool you should be fine. No need to add anymore stabilizer. Just let the FC fall now to about 7 and keep it in that range. While the FC is still elevated, continue with the Polyfill filtering. Let's see what your water does when you take care of those things.
