Can you use SWG with an Automatic Pool Cover

In the initial planning stage of getting an IGP. I think I would get a vinyl IGP 20 x 40. I want an automatic pool cover. I was thinking of SWG but I was told SWG ruin/rust automatic pool covers. Is this true? Is it an either or situation? Either the automatic pool cover or the SWG ?.

Thank you so much for the info. I really want both. Is there things I can do to help the longevity of the cover with SWG...I had read old articles that talked about burying something (Like a sacrificial piece ) or using parts that I think were galvanized steel. Sounded a little voodoo 🙃 Of course I probably got it all backwards. Hopefully it’s simplified now like rinse the track lol.. I would think with the growing popularity of SWG pools automatic pool cover companies had to address any issues

Here are pictures of my setup. The nice thing is I can leave the power unit under cover if it rains. When I open the cover I just take out the robot and slide it out of the way. You can hear the robot under the cover climbing the walls so I don’t think that is an issue.

I love my Autocover (see my many posts raving about it). I would never own a pool without one.
I added an SWCG this year. So far, no adverse effects. I will note too, that my salt level was already 1800ppm when I "converted".

The one thing I did do, that the installers didn't, was to try to bond the various pieces of the autocover system (since mine is deck-mounted). I connected the tracks and brackets together with bonding wire and then ran that back to my equipment bond spider. No idea if this was necessary.

Aside from all the usual awesome benefits of an Autocover (like safety and keeping most debris out of the pool), I think it also keeps my pH from rising as we generally only open it for a couple hours a day. Lots of people have pH rise, but mine seems quite happy to sit at 7.5-7.6 for weeks without adding acid.

Same here...folks talk about frequent pH rises with SWG pools and I don't see that at all with mine. It does like to hang out at 7.8 though.

I have had an auto cover and swcg for about 8 years. Cover is coverstar-- I have seen no rusting or corrosion on the tracks-- although I do believe they offer a stainless steel option which I do not have. Cover with SWCG means less chlorinre loss, less run time and hopefully more longevity for the generator. Also less debris !!

Best wishes.
