Hi. I had a previous thread where I was lost and ended up having to drain my pool after mistakenly adding too much stabilizer. You guys helped me through that but I’m still not out of the woods. The water is still cloudy and just slightly green.
I read all about the SLAM process but never did figure out how much chlorine to add. I guessed rather than do nothing and added 2 gallons last night. I tested carefully today and here are the results.
FC 14.5
CC .5
TA. 200
pH. 7.8 (this is after adding a gallon of acid yesterday one quart at a time and retesting an hour or two after each addition)
CYA 30-40 (I think I could maybe still see a slight shadow of the black dot at the 40 mark but definitely not at 30)
What should I do? I have two gallons of chlorine left but can get more. Thanks,
Delta

Plug your test result into poolmath and get the dose to raise FC back to 16. That is SLAM level for 40 CYA. You'll be doing it every couple hours. When the water looks nice and clear, no more algae anywhere, then you can test CC. If it is .5 or less, then you can do the overnight loss test. It'll take at least three days, maybe a week, to SLAM a pool, depending on how green it is and how diligent you are about testing and dosing. If work gets in the way and you can only test two or three times, it'll take a little longer.

If the slam article didn't make sense, maybe you'll like the movie version better.

Thanks. I do understand the chart now. I get it woohoo! Now I just need to find a chart that tells how much chlorine to add to raise it 9ppm

No, if FC is above 10 the Ph test is invalid. Dont worry about until you are finished with slam.
Okay good. They were out of acid anyway.
Today I scrubbed the whole pool. What a workout! Now the water is a VERY murky, chalky, sea foam green and after awhile I was scrubbing blindly. Couldn’t see the bottom even with a swim mask. I’ll do it again tomorrow.
