I'm having the liner replaced this week and upon getting prepped, I see rust!
When I take off the top resin rail, I see rust on the stabilizer coping rail and the column top plate.
The stabilizer coping seems to be more of a cosmetic build up of rust, no holes, breaks, or structural breaks.
The plate is a mess, but also seems structurally fine.

Being galvanized, how do I clean these off? I've read not not use a wire brush as there may be some sort of reaction between the two metals.
Vinegar, baking soda, or just dish soap and water? Use a nylon brush?

Then the issue of priming galvanized metal. Rust-Oleum Universal Bonding Primer seems to be the recommended product.

I also want to spray any interior wall rust with the Bonding Primer too.

Then the outside walls.
Treat them with the same Bonding Primer too, then paint? ( After I sand that rust off)

Thanks for any help and tips.

We had the same rust issues on the coping and top plates. We replaced the coping because it started to flake.
The top plates - my husband started by sanding them, then primer painted with a rust inhibitor. It was a lot of work and he eventually gave up and bought new ones.
The wall rust - ours ate thru the wall, so we had to cut it out and bolted on a new galvanized and primed panel around the skimmer and the return openings. We had no other rust on the walls.
I think the sanding and primer/bonding paint would work. If when sanding you end up with a hole in the wall, you will have to bolt a piece of metal to the wall. The water will cause the liner to push into the hole and eventually tear the liner.
