So into 4th year of above ground pool, 1/2 below ground. Put on new standard pool hoses but they expand a lot when pump starts and was getting air in system when pump stopped. Not enough that pump couldn't prime but still. Decided to replace with flexible PVC and barb fittings with clamps. So at the two connections at pool and then at pump inlet and filter discharge those work no problem. But the Intex SWCG has these adapters with a large rubber gasket and then 2 sizes with rubber o-rings (designed for the 1 1/4 and 1.5" standard pool hoses). I went from flex PVC to a barb coupling (both ends barbed) then to a rubber coupler and clamped one end to the barb and the other side to the largest dia. on the Intex connector. Is there a better way to deal with the Intex connectors? I will also have to put on some quick disconnect unions later at the pump inlet and possibly filter discharge to make it easier to take unit to garage for winter.
A related question - The standard hose that connects pump to cartridge filter (both on common base) appears to also be flexible PVC with Unions PVC glued on both at pump and filter. However (I thought it was rust), but the UV is making the flex PVC brown. I read the PVC doesn't hold up to UV (but this is the standard item that came with pool package). I decided to try to paint this white and maybe use UV clear coating on the new flex PVC pipes. Will this work?
