marble chips around cement patio perimeter question

I have a cement deck - wonder if its worth it to dig a border around it about 6 inches wide 3 or 4 inches deep and fill with marble chips/gravel - reasoning is the lawn/dirt is right up against the patio so drainage is an issue on the high side of the yard. would it be a waste of time? any pros/cons?...thx

here are some pics- i recently cut out a small strip of grass with a small chopping tool....that will only last a few weeks probably

How wide of a gravel border do you have in mind?

i was thinking 6 to 8 inches - would probably use marble chips like i have used in a couple other spots like under the cherry tree i have dug out a 6 foot long 10 inch deep trench filled with marble chips (see pic) that have helped with drainage in that area. the small stones in this area were then covered with larger river pebbles.
