Can you help me identify the Waterline Material?

Getting ready to open the pool, and the time has come to address the icky waterline of our cement pool that was built in 1976.

We have well water, hence the discoloration and staining of the waterline, and I seek to rectify that, but I need to determine what material this may be first.

Any ideas concerning what Waterline Material this might be? It’s definitely not tile, and if you thump it, it almost makes a noise like that of metal. It has a light texture in it, too, that perhaps you can see from the pics.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks so much for the reply. I have a few pounds of Ascorbic Acid on its way. I was going to try to make a rub out of it and go along the sides. I think you’re right about the fiberglass. If I compare it to the construction of a shower, per se. I know that a shower is constructed from cement board with a fiberglass overlay. That makes total sense.

Well that is interesting! Let me ask a couple of questions. Is the plaster connected to that at all? Or is that overlayed over the plaster?

You say "cement" pool. Does it have plaster or is it painted cement?

I am also going to call in a couple of people who may have some idea of this treasure. @ajw22 @jimmythegreek
@Pool Clown any thoughts or idea for her?
Well....I kindly thank you, KimCats, for your response. As luck would have it, our pool came today to open our pool, and I asked him. He said only the floor of the pool is cement. The entire side walls are fiberglass! I had no idea.

To me, it looks and feels like 2 separate pieces. But he said it was just the textured pattern in the white part.

Thank you all again. Mystery solved.
