Repairing My Pool Cleaner

I have a "The Pool Cleaner" left by the previous owner. I used it a few times last year, but I mostly used a pressure side Polaris cleaner since is seemed to work better on leaves. "The Pool Cleaner" works nicely for fine stuff on the bottom, though. Once I got all the leaves out this season, I'm still getting dust and pollen on the bottom. So I thought I'd get "The Pool Cleaner" working on it.

I've been noticing that it isn't cleaning up much area of the pool. The area it vacuums is noticeable cleaner than the surrounding area, but it wasn't making much headway. If finally dawned on me that it was really just doing donuts when it should be going straight part of the time.

I played around with the adjustment on it thinking that I wasn't getting the suction at the right level. I watched an installation video, and it did turn out that I didn't have suction turned up to the recommended level. But even after fixing that, the vacuum would still just go around in circles.

I glanced through the manuals and watched the video of it operating again. Finally, I realized that both wheels are supposed to be driven. On mine, one of them was spinning freely. That's when I decided it was broken and not just incorrectly adjusted.

I took the cover off. I was kind of hoping that one of the gears was broken because I thought I might be able to 3d print a replacement.

It wasn't a gear, though. It is that drive shaft at the top of the photo. The toothed section to the right has sheared off (and is probably in my pool somewhere).

I've ordered a replacement shaft assembly from Inyo. I think it is possibly from a newer generation of "The Pool Cleaner", but I'm hopeful this component hasn't changed. I'll post an update once I get it and have the system fixed.

Thanks for the report. :goodjob: Let us know how the fix works out.
