Hello, new member here and would like some advice on installing a 12x24 intex pool. The site has been leveled and I need to install a small retaining wall then it’s on to pool install. I’m thinking of spreading two inches of sand under the pool with foam board on top of that. Is this a good approach or should I use something other than sand? All comments will be greatly appreciated. Attached is the future pool site

Looks like you have good solid ground. I used a thin layer of sand just to level everything off nicely then half inch foam. I have the same pool, it has been up for a year now and so far so good. I think you're on the right track.

What are the foam boards under the pool used for? I see a lot of people saying to do this but didnt want to assume why. My guess was for cushioning under foot and possibly to help keep the pool warmer from cold ground contact?

More for comfort than anything else. You may get some insulation and protection from rocks and weed as well. I only went with half inch and im glad i spent the extra $100.

Thanks for your reply. I am getting my pool delivered soon but based on all the learning and accessories needed to make it last longer and more enjoyable I think I will wait until next year to put it up. It's all intimidating so I'll use the inflatable pool this season

Its really not that bad. You will find all the answers here. The thing that really got me going was paying an excavator guy to level my site. That was the biggest hurdle for me, the rest was pretty smooth sailing.
