Pentair Intellibrite 5g White LED replacement question

Hi all - My pool was just completed within the last few weeks. Absolutely loving it so far, but when we built it the builder convinced me not to go with the pool light that changes color because he said that they don't last as long and are very expensive to replace. Now that the pool is completed, I'm regretting not having the color lights.

The current light is the Pentair Intellibrite 5g White LED light 120V. Aside from the cost of the light, does anyone know how difficult and expensive it would be to replace with the color light? Is it as simple as purchasing the Pentair Intellibrite 5g color LED light, or is there a lot more to it? This wouldn't be something I do myself (I'd hire a pool servicing company to do it), but I'm just curious how big of a project this would be.

PS - the light did come with a blue plastic cover, but it's so cheap it already cracked...and It doesn't stay on very well so I'd really like to get one of the lights that can change color. Another option without changing the light are some submersible LED color light pucks that you can drop in, but I don't know if those are a better option.

Any info you can share is appreciated. Thanks!

OK so I'm not an expert but here's what I know. The rims on my intellibrite which are like yours but 12 V, 5G white, got nasty. Since they emptied the pool to repalster I ordered new rims from Ebay, OEM and OEM seals. I was told you must replace the seal every time you open the light. Easy to remove and reinstall from the actual niche. I found out they call the light part the engine board, it really is plug and play, not too difficult to do yourself. However, that is the expensive part. The other thing, which my pool guy said is you can install an electronic control that does the light changes for you and I believe there are many options for that part, or you can cycle your light switch on and off until you get to the color you want. One more thing, reinstalling the lens and the new seal is a bear and you need at least 4 hands. If I can do that part you can too. The light has a small tab on the bottom and is held in the niche by dropping into a small opening on the bottom of the niche then you push it into the nich and line up the screw ( phillips head ). That's not difficult, you can work upside down laying on the deck or in the water with a mask. TURN ALL POWER OFF PLEASE. I' not yelling just a big caution. I hope that helps a little bit.

Welcome to TFP. The manual for the White and Color light is https://www.pentair.com/content/dam...lor-pool-spa-lights-manual-english-french.pdf

See page 20 for the parts breakdown. It looks like you need PN 619818Z for the color light engine. Looks like it costs around $300 on ebay and $450 in online stores.

Florida Sunseekers has an alternative replacement at Pentair® 619818Z Kit IntelliBrite® 5G PCBA Pool Aftermarket

Do you have automation? How will you control the color changing of the light?

Please create your signature with details of your pool and equipment.

Not sure I can answer about the conversion, but I can attest to what the builder stated about the longevity of these 5G Intellibrite Color LED lights. I installed two pool lights and one spa light when I built our pool in 2013. Since then, I have replaced both pool lights twice, and am currently ordering my 3rd round of replacements. We run the lights 2 hrs each night (~700hrs /yr) and they are controlled with the Pentair Easytouch system. The lights are beautiful and really make the pool "pop". However, they are expensive and do not last that long. Surprisingly, the Spa light has run this entire time and never needed replacing. While we love the look of the lights, I am investigating replacement options, as I am getting tired of having to replace these every couple of years. Just something to consider.

I have 3 pool lights and 1 spa light and currently have one pool light not working and one that seems to be going out. I am wondering if the aftermarket kit works or would I be wasting my money. Changing the whole light looks like a serious project for the pros.

Disappointing to see how Pentair has updated their lights. I'm sure there is good reason, however, it just drives the prices up. My pool is about 5 years old and the LED lights were just coming to be and I was also told they were more expensive. Their original LED lights were still normal style bulbs that screwed in to a socket, so the white incandescent and the LED color change were interchangeable in the housing. The bulb was the only difference. So I originally bought the cheaper white incandescent lights, and as they've burned out, I simply replaced with color LED bulbs from J and J electronics (now owned by Halco it looks like). This was a very simple upgrade for me.

Looking at this new bulb you have though it looks like it fits into a very shallow housing, not the deeper older style housing I have, so the key is what niche is installed in to the plaster/concrete and how much work do you want to go to. If Pentair hasn't changed the niche and your niche is deep and a bigger housing will fit in it, you could always retrofit to the older light housing and instead of buying expensive Pentair bulbs, but the equivalent replacement from J&J Electronics.

This is the older style Pentair light I have from 5 years ago - you have to make sure it would fit in the niche you have installed and you'd have to drain the water down below the niche so you could pull the wire through to the junction box with it being dry. Amazon.com : Pentair 78456300 Amerlite Underwater Incandescent Pool Light with Stainless Steel Face Ring, 120 Volt, 100 Foot Cord, 500 Watt : Swimming Pool Lighting Products : Garden & Outdoor. It also looks like J&J/Halco sells the light housings from this link (wouldn't need to buy the older style from Pentair, but I don't know which one would fit in to the Pentair niche - you could call them - Pool & Spa ColorSplash: Multi-Color In-Ground Pool & Spa LED Lighting ColorSplash XG Pool Fixture | Halco Lighting Technologies

Once you have this housing, then buy the new J&J Electronics Colorsplash with Pure white LED replacement screw in bulb. LPL-P2-RGBW-120 26031 120V - Color Splash LXG-W LED Lamp - Pool - RGB Color Changing | Halco Lighting Technologies This bulb mimics and displays all of the Pentair colors and is controlled identically from your Easy Touch system.

I don't think you understood what kit I was talking about. The link below is the unit I was referring to.

You are correct - didn't understand the options with those new LED lights. Reading up on some of them, the problems and the cost, I would still consider going back a generation of bulbs if your niches were the older deeper style. They are proven, they are LED, they last and they are 100% compatible for colors if they fit in the niche.
