Hello/Hola
I am new to the forum, have been reading the tons of excellent information you guys share!
My story short:
  • I have been in Western North Carolina for 3 years now.
  • Wife and I want a budget-friendly pool. (the plan is16 ft round Summer Waves with Intex Sand and saltwater sys)
  • Decided to prep the ground before purchasing anything.
  • I start Leveling....leveling.... leveling... See pictures
  • I did some math, and doesn't look good! my numbers say I have to dig 4.8 ft!!
  • Thinking how to tell the Wife... no pool! unless I get a budget increase...

HI and OH :poop: for you!!! Wow that is going to be a lot of digging!!! So is the budget increase for??? Renting a diggy toy? A BIG diggy toy? or some diggy helpers?

Yeah the slop never looks as bad as it it until you start something like this!!!

LOVE your view from the deck! HEAVEN for sure!!

Yeah the slope was very ”subtle” looking standing on the grass.
The budget increase is to hire some one to come with a tractor. It’s hard to rent big toys nearby.

And yeah the look is nice. I will post a pic later.

And if she says but...............hand her a shovel and tell her she can help you dig!! I bet she finds the helper a very good idea after that!!! LOL

I like your style and way with words. This is going to be fun to watch and help on!!

Kim:kim:
Ohh she is helping out! but still dig+build ret wall + install the pool... is a lot of work.
The budget is now increased... now the question is should I keep up with the plan and just hire a grader/level tractor "guy" a few hours or improve to a resin ABG pool... :sneaky:

I wondered if you would go there..............with all of this work and money............why go seasonal pool?????? Well you could but when you find how much you LOVE the pool you will have to hire out again to make it bigger for the "real" pool so it will end up costing you more in the long run! So go big!!! Take it all of the way!!!

I won the battle that Kim is explaining, but i got clobbered in the war. I refused to spend $15k+ on an above ground pool/deck/fence. So i spent $60k on a heated salt inground with a patio and fence. I showed HER.

  • Haha
  • Wow

A quick update:
A “grading guy” come over to check the job and give me a quote. It take measurements with a rope and says that it’s only 23 inches. If I want he can come over with the bobcat for $500 bucks and have it done in one day. Then he said that I have about 11 inches done and if I have time he would recommend to DIY.
With working from home I have more time since I don’t need to commute.
So this is how the digging is going.
there is a cold frosty wave coming to the southeast so looks like it will take a few more weeks before the ground is level and ready to install the pool.
