Why doesn’t Pollywood make a plantation chair!!!

We love the look of plantation chairs on our deck. We first started with some black lacquered chairs from Grandin Road. Those lasted about 6 months. We found these teak versions that are now about a year old but really starting to weather. I love the idea of Pollywood but just cant find the style. My wife went to a home show and asked the distributor why they did not make those. He said he wished they would they would sell a ton of them.

They make 600 different versions of an Adirondack chair but none of these.

The black ones were even nicer, but very poorly made. I would love to have some easy to clean long lasting ones.

Teak lasts forever. You just need to sand and/or seal it every year if you want it to look pretty.

I was just going to say that. Some people actually like the gray coloring that the teak does naturally over time. I personally would sand it and throw a few coats of Epifanes marine varnish on them. Taking a few days to do that right once will make those things last quite a while.

Oh how disappointing on the Grandin chairs! I was actually considering those, and a painted bench. I'm betting if the chairs don't last, neither will the bench. Bummer.

A polywood set would be fabulous! I wonder if it has something to do with cutting the curves? It might be worth an email directly to the company, rather than a distributer.

So I guess I dont really have a problem with once a year maintenance on my chairs, but when I try to read up on oiling/sealing or whatever for teak the amount of differing opinions is crazy. Just not sure what product to use.

There are a million finishes. Most boats have teak on them somewhere, especially sailboats due to how well it holds up to the extreme elements. Use a marine finish like @the_sphynx said for a longer lasting application. Oil/stain/varnish/epoxy is up to your preference. Lots of people buy teak or cedar specifically for how they grey with age.

If the furniture falls apart it Is the builders fault for doing so cheaply, not the teak’s fault.
