Before I started, during and after. I'm not done yet. I still have steps to complete, banisters and a board walk that runs the length of the back of the garage to the pool. In the first pic the black pipe is moving a natural spring away from the pool and runs roughly 500ft down through the neighbor's yard (he let me do it) to the road storm drain. I have a few hairy cuts in there that I impressed myself with.

I'm going to have a platform coming into the decking from the "board walk". With the way the garage was constructed I had to do it this way. I'll have steps from the board walk coming onto the deck. So 2 sets of steps.

I did this in 3 days. 90% by myself. I gotta go back to prison now. Make more money to finish it. I was in a rush beating rain drops to get the floor done so my little granddaughter doesn't fall through. She just turned 6! Not s baby anymore but shes still my baby!

Those cuts ROCK!!! Nice!

What room is that window with a view in?

She is how old???????? NO WAY!! Growing up so fast!

Kim:kim:
That is the garage window. Nothing fancy. I hated to butt the deck right under it but that was level. She's definitely growing way to fast. She's sharp as a tack too. LOL She told me "You better get choorrine in da poul so it's not geen LaLa. I told her I'd get right on it kid. That was right before I cleared the swamp.

That's a lot of work for 3 days. Very nicely done.
I dont mess around. I wanted to get as much done as possible in the little bit of time I had off before going back to work. I was working from 0800 to about 1900. Those cuts had me nervous. I agonized over them for awhile before I cut them.

Looks great! It'll be interesting to see how you add the steps at the deck from the boardwalk.

Are you putting any kind of platform/step up to prevent feet from standing on the top rail? I know my kids would go from deck to top rail then jump in the pool.

Now you just need a slip-n-slide on that long hill right into the pool. lol

I've thought n thought n thought about the steps n how I am going to work them in. Here is a stick drawing. Haha

I wont be adding anything around the pool rails. My granddaughter is the only one who actually jumps in. I'll see how she does with the rails because she's starting to jump in the pool. If I have to I'll make her a little jumping platform. I've actually stood on the rails to sweep the pool several times n it hold my fat butt. She's definitely smaller than me. It's pretty sturdy. I wouldn't dare do it now because I have to many screws (14 n 2 plates) in my feet and they are still pretty sore. I still lose my balance too.

I'd be afraid of a slip n slide on that hill n not being able to stop. On our way into town these people made a 100ft slip n slide on their hill. Man... that thing looks like so much fun! They even made a watering hole at the bottom! Lol

What's the purpose of the high part of the deck where you have the ledger board on the garage? Are you having another section of decking up there?

I've walked on the top rail in a pinch also, but wouldn't want to have it as a jumping step.

Um, who wants to stop & get off the slip-n-slide before they land in the pool? I'd want the terminus of walking up the hill to be the fun slide down the hill right into the pool. Joking aside, LOOONG slip-n-slide are so much fun!

Rather than steps have you considered a ramp? The pictures make it seem like the run is gentle enough for a ramp.

The angle cuts look good. It's not easy to get them to looks right. I ran my decking on an angle and it added days worth of time to get all the cuts right.

I'd have to dig out more dirt n I'm done digging after the sewer line fiasco I dealt with a few weeks ago.

The reason I have to build the deck platform that way is because the guy who built the is an idiot. You can see how instead of running cinders the whole length, he stopped and ran wood. I didn't want to go through the block and I'm using the platform as the height of the boardwalk in the back.

Yea it was just a thought it was hard to tell just how sloped everything is back there.

That foundation wall really is a mess for what you are trying to do now. If it makes you feel any better those areas like that are what really give the space character and set them apart from cookie cutter deck spaces. When it's done it's going to make your deck a special place that's just for your home.

Make the deck work with the land first and foremost. It's extra work but in the end it will look and work better. The straight lines on the house are easy it's the curved and angled lines matching the hill that really set things apart. All the extra effort I put into match my deck to rocks and slopes is what I like most about how things look after the years of having things up.

The sewer line looks like one heck of a dig by hand affair. Sometimes a pick axe and a shovel is the only way to get things done.

This deck will surely be unique. I'd like to have it done in the next few weeks so I can finally relax.

You did a great job!...great use of that house-to-pool space!

The only thing that concerns me is in this picture...

104609

...there are no beams supporting the joists, just joist hangers at both ends. That is allowed where you live?
Also the post in the foreground just has the outer board screwed to it with a couple screws.

I not trying to knock your project...I’m sorry...I would just hate to hear of anyone getting hurt with the way it’s constructed.

It's only 8ft and my dad said that's fine. I wouldn't build a flimsy deck especially since my granddaughter is using it.

I also have drilled holes and pinned my posts and 2x6s.

You can see where I used a pin to hold it together. I definitely pinned all my 2×6s to the posts. :) I only used the 3 inch deck screws to help me along in the process because I am working alone and dont have enough hands to hold and boards and drill at the same time.

Its been hard trying to get projects done on my own here since my husband has a TBI and simple things confuse him greatly. It's so bad that I cant even rearrange things in the house because he will have a melt down. But you're fine with questioning me @partsman. I run all this stuff through my Daddy first and make sure it all works and if it doesn't, he'll tell me... That wont work Kid. I always listen to him.
