Update: I had a few people in the pool yesterday, I added a gallon of bleach about 30 min prior to anyone getting in the pool, my target there was to get the chlorine over 5. After the party was over, the pool started to turn green. I decided to go all in on SLAM and work from home today. See progress below... I have to go into the office tomorrow so won't be able to pay as close of attention as I did today. For the morning addition, should I overshoot to compensate for not being able to tend during the day or stay to 28ppm target? I received my CYA reagent today and it was 70. I should mention that the pool was looking green and rough this AM but it's crystal clear right now. I will not be stopping the SLAM until I pass the overnight test... Thanks again for your help.

So in the midst of slam, another problem has reared it's head... metal! Before I found TFP, the pool store said I tested positive for metal (copper i think) and sold me the following two items; Amazon.com : BioGuard Pool Magnet Plus - 1 Quart : Swimming Pool Chemicals And Supplies : Garden & Outdoor and BioGuard Sparkle Up - Pool Geek. They seemed to work at the time. The symptom was that my pool stairs were turning orange. The items sold to me by the pool store seemed to clean it up but now it's back (likely due to the high chlorine reacting with the metals. I think I know where the metal is coming from and have a plan to remediate. For the symptoms though, how should I proceed when SLAM is complete? I have no intention of going back to the pool store, what does tfp recommend for these issues that won't counteract the good work I've been doing to get the pool properly balanced?

All, still in the midst of SLAM. Consistently losing ~4ppm during oclt. The pools looks great and every morning I'm seeing less and less dead algae. I hope that there's only a few more days. Starting to run low on chlorine (again!). One question though, I noticed this (see pics) on the bottom of the pool this am. I'm hoping this is a pollen pile vs mustard algae. It's in a spot that gets sun all day. Thoughts? Looking at the pics it may be hard to see. I tried to circle the area in question but understand if the image isn't clear enough.

Hi All, still SLAMing. I was wondering if the # of hours between dusk and early am measurement has an affect on the passing of the OCLT? I've been at it for over a week now and I'm still not at or below 1ppm lost overnight... I used the SWCG during the day only to augment liquid chlorine as I'm running low and haven't been able to get to the store.

No lights in the pool. I've brushed the shallow stairs and walls daily as well as running my dolphin premier at least once per day and often two times. I've removed the caps from the deep end stairs to allow the shocked water into the open ladder cavity. I've stopped seeing dead algae in the am anywhere in the pool.

It is possible the chlorine is just breaking down stuff in your filter that has been previously captured. I'm guessing you're probably done as you're very close to passing the oclt

I tested this am and lost 1.5ppm again, 29fc 0cc down to 27.5fc and .5cc - we had extremely heavy downpours last night so I'm wondering if that contributed to the loss... I'm going to call it done on slam and see how my swcg maintains the appropriate chlorine level. I'll be doing a full retest once fc levels get back to a normal level. Now I need to deal with the metal staining and some excessive water loss. I'll be doing the bucket test for the water loss as well as the ascorbic acid protocol for removing the metal stains. Thanks again for all of your help.
