Help with Level..

I'm installing a 27' Round Saltwater 8000 and have had some dirt work done. Leveling is close but still 1 1/4" off in some spots. I'm using a laser transit which is helpful, but this stuff is driving me nuts!

This is my spot. It's currently 28' round by the paint. My question is.. Should I place my bottom ring and level the ring and then bury and level the paver stones under each upright. Get all the buried stones level and then worry about the rest of the area? I've read that the most important thing to level is the ring. I'd be interested to see how others have handled it.

I have someone I think that could help you as they are going through this right now!!1 Hold on until he get back with us @badams I also have a link for you: What to Use for Leveling an Above Ground Pool - INYOPools.com

They have all kinds of pages that may be of help to you. Their search is a good one. Just type in an idea of what you want to read and it will give you several related links!

This is what we did. We laid out the bottom ring and made sure it was perfectly round and centered. Remember this ring can expand or contract when the actual wall goes in so the pavers should be large and thick. We then placed the pavers in place and made final adjustments so it is again perfectly centered and round. This took some time. Then we carefully removed the ring. Then we found the lowest paver and dug in in about half way. We had about 5 inches of compacted aglime to work with. Some call it rock dust. Anyway, starting at the first paver we went around and leveled to the center and to the previous paver each additional paver (digging them in). When we finished the last one we crossed our fingers and put the level on both ways...perfect! We had a 2x4 with a hole in it that sat on the center spike.

Thanks! When you are staring at this GIANT circle, it's a daunting task.. It's like you don't know where to begin. Luckily, I still have access to the laser transit. I bought some of the 8x16" paver stones from Lowe's. Your advice sounds like a plan! I have to think in my head that the 'middle' of the pool doesn't have to be perfectly level as the liner will move and stretch as needed. It's the ring and all the uprights that need to be on solid level ground.

Wow! What great advice! The INYOPool link you sent is similar to to what TomGallopavo said in his thread! It makes me feel better about leveling. Wish me luck! Hopefully, the weather will cooperate. It hasn't lately... Rain...rain.. go away!

"I have to think in my head that the 'middle' of the pool doesn't have to be perfectly level as the liner will move and stretch as needed. "

You should take great care getting the bottom as nice as you can because once the water is in, there is not much you could do.

Agreed sir! I'm just not going to beat myself up if the 'middle' is not within an 1/8" of level like the outer ring. I'll try to shoot for within an inch in the middle..smooth..no rocks with a sand base followed up with an Armor pad, foam cove.

I can't wait until I'm at the point where I only have some spots off by an inch or so! That inyo pools link was a bit helpful, I wont fret as much about the interior being level. I was going with the level on a board method for the initial leveling and then when it comes to the pavers and rails I would rent an actual transit level. Although 2 days in and about 1/16th of the pie done I can already see how the board method can be grossly inaccurate when using it on hard clay. I started looking into getting a cheap laser transit but I may have to just put something together and work during the night so I can see the laser from the level I already have.

Good luck! You are already much farther along in the project than I am.

All 18 pavers are buried and dead level with the laser transit! We went around carefully shoveling dirt around the ring and set a level from paver to paver. All are level. So I basically have a ring that is around a foot wide, 27' in diameter that is perfectly level! I tell you.. if you haven't attempted this, this is a lot of work! Especially in rocky soil! My son-in-law and myself worked for around 4 hours burying and leveling pavers. Now on to the task of removing excess dirt from the center of the pool. Ugh.. I'll be glad when this part of the project is over!

that kinda looked like my yard a few years ago. i used a tiller and wheel barrow to get rid of my excess dirt. looking good. all the work will be worth it.

Yep! I got my pick and flat shovel after it last night a bit as well as my wheel barrow to cart the dirt out. I hear that this it the toughest and most critical part to a successful AGP. Hopefully, everything else will go smooth! :)
