Ok so I have the Taylor test kit and FAS-DPD chlorine test. I get my CYA tested at a local pool store. Since the beginning of the season after startup we have had a yellowish stain that basically covers the whole pool up to the water line. It cannot be brushed off. I have maintained a FC level at or a little above target. I will try to attach pictures.
My current water tests today were as follows

  • FC: 15
  • CC: 0
  • CH: 310
  • TA: 100
  • PH: 7.8
Per pool store below
  • CYA: 80
  • Copper: 0
  • Iron: 0
  • TDS: 800
  • Phosphates: 100
Thank you!

No, it doesn’t brush off on feet either. I have scratched it with my nail and it doesn’t scrape off them either. The clean spots on bottom are where Chlorbrite granules settled until I could brush them off. A vitamin C tablet did lighten it some also though.

The stain is organic and this is what I suspected it was. This is why the chlorine removed it. The vitamin C will lighten it.

I think the source is likely the tree or other environmental factor.

As the surface is vinyl the choices are limited as to how it can be effectively removed without damaging the liner. One option may be to hold chlorine at higher level and invest in a suction pool cleaner to help pull water over and over the stain whilst gently scrubbing it.

A pool store CYA test is very suspect. The most inaccurate test a pool store does is CYA ---
