Hello. I will start by saying I have successfully maintained a TFP in the past, but we didn't open the pool last year and opened to a swamp this year. We started the SLAM process on Saturday. The pool has gone from a disgusting, dark green pond to a milky aqua color, so we are making progress. The problem is that I know we still have a thick layer of gunk in the deep end (9ft). We would like to vacuum to waste, but can't see to do that. We are consistently washing out basket with skimmer sock and backflushing the filter when the pressure goes up. I got the pH at the right level before beginning the SLAM, and I am keeping the FC at SLAM level as much as possible. Also, we started with 0 CYA, so I added stabilizer over two days time to get the level up to 40 (presumed level after dosing according to pool math). Last reading, my FC had dropped to 11, so dosed back up to 16. Surprisingly, CC was 0 (all day yesterday it was .5). I have read other posts on using flocculant, and I see that it is generally not necessary/recommended, but we really would like to see what's going on on the bottom of the pool. Is there a good reason to NOT do it under our circumstances?
