Welcome to you and your new build to TFP!

I know you are excited to get that dig started! Great choice of liners. That's going to be beautiful! And all your stone choices go great together and will look terrific with the liner and water color. Good job!

I love those pool-width steps! Very nice!

Will you have a pool cover? How are your summer temperatures going so far?

Keep the updates coming, and let us know if you have any questions!

Take care,
Suz

Thanks! Going to play it by ear on the pool cover. Our pool builder is of the opinion that one of the joys of pool ownership is just being able to look out at the uncovered pool and enjoy the overall aesthetic, without having to fuss with rolling/unrolling every morning and night, and having a rolled up cover to look at all day. Not sure how much this will add to the heating cost, but it will be a relatively small pool (~15K gallons?).

Temperatures have been lower this year, but 60-65F overnight and 80-85F during the day is what we'd normally see for air temperatures. On the hottest days, most of the perceived 'heat' comes from humidity.

Trying to decide on the cross section of the pool. My wife wants to maximize the shallow end, but I want a deep enough deep-end to allow for safety when jumping off a diving rock (not head first).

Would this cross section be feasible? Drawing is to scale:

I'm just finishing my build, but I'm not sure you can do a straight 90 vertical wall like that with a liner all the way to the hopper bottom. My pool is 16x32 and my back wall has slope from panel bottom/ledge to hopper bottom over 4'. I'm sure others have a lot more experience, but all plans I have seen on vinyl liner have that slope into the hopper bottom. My slope is as follows:

|4' slope to hopper bottom|6' hopper bottom|14' slope up from hopper bottom to shallow area|8' shallow area|

Looking at it I think a bigger shallow area would have been nice, but the kids and wife really wanted a deep area to jump into, and my understanding was I needed that slope to do 8' deep.

Ah good to know, thanks. I wonder if I could get away with a steeper slope on the deep end wall, like this:

Welcome to the forum! I used to work just outside of Stouffville, and went to school in Uxbridge. Small world! Can't wait to see the progress on the build.

Also, solar covers are a pain but are the only realistic to keep the heat in the pool in our climate --especially this summer. My pool (though small) will lose close to 10 degrees overnight if it's windy and no cover. If you like warm water (80+) use a cover.

Thanks! Very small world. My PB (Avante) is in Stouffville, and I'm just north of there, in Mt. Albert. Moved here from North Oshawa not too long ago.

I don't mind a refreshingly cold pool, but my wife and 1yo will probably want it on the warmer side. I was looking into the cover systems that hide everything below deck, but they're massively expensive, even for the manual crank ones.

What's the total length of your pool? To me, the 4' length of 7' depth is not enough. I could be wrong.

My deep end is 7', and it's worked fine for us for jumping. One son is 6'2" and a big guy. He sometimes touches the bottom when jumping, so I wish mine were deeper. I didn't have the length for it.

Total length is 32'. I'm 6'2" and 220lbs myself. Sounds like I wouldn't want to go any shallower than 7'.

My low limit is 72-74 for a swim but I have to be pretty warm to stay in for any time. My parents have an 18x30 IGP at their place north of Uxbridge and they haven't used a cover in years. Stays in the mid to high 70s through the summer. Breaks 80 during heat waves.

Smaller world still--we currently live in Oshawa, Olive & Harmony area! Moved here 4 years ago.

Nice! That's with a heater, I'm assuming?

I was only 5km from there! Grandview and Taunton.

I like the north end--the wife does a lot of shopping there[emoji6], but we couldn't pass up the yard we got with our current place, plus we're walking distance to the Minion's school which is awesome.

The folks have a basic solar system in place, no gas heater at all. I like the pool somewhere between 78-84 personally. Today our Intex was 80 when I got in and it felt great. I'm turning into a wuss in my old age...[emoji4]
