Wireless Control compatability confusion

I have AQL-BASE-RF and software version 2.66

The top control requires AQL2-BASE-RF and software version 2.6 or higher.
The top control requires AQL-BASE-RF (mine) and software version 2.5 or lower.

So I have the older base with the newer software.
I mistakenly bought the top one and of course it doesn't work.
What do I need to do?

Buy the bottom one? change my base?

I would get the AQL2-BASE-RF so you are compatible with the newer devices. However, do you have any other wireless devices? If so, that might limit you to the older AQL-BASE-RF and force you to get the older remote unless you want to upgrade everything.

Ok, this is fairly confusing.

Let's say I upgrade the receiver (BASE) on my primary Controls.
Are the RF receivers universal?

The supplier has a restocking fee on the wireless puck so I am now thinking I will update to the AQL2 Base versus my GLX base but are they interchangable or would i have to update the PCB as well?
If I can get away with updating the BASE-RF and my current wall mounted wireless controls and sell those on ebay then I would rather go that route.

I don't want to update the receiver and wall control only to find out I have to update the outdoor (primary) stuff as well.

Are the RF receivers universal?
No. They are tied to the base unit which is why your new remote does not work with the old base unit. However, your current main board (2.66) should support both. It is the remote RF units that will need to be changed if you go with the upgraded AQL2-BASE-RF.
