SWG and calcium

Hi Everyone,

We have a SWG and live in Northern Ca where the water is very hard. Over time we have developed a lot of calcium buildup on the tile, etc. in addition, we have noticed white flakes coming out of the returns the past couple years. We also saw a lot of buildup in the cell. We would clean the cell frequently to address this- fully recognizing it was a band-aid approach.
The white flakes were so extreme, we felt perhaps draining the pool might help. However, we could not drain our pool due to the severe drought here in CA...until now. We are draining it this weekend. I noticed calcium buildup in the pipes (see photo). So my two questions...
1. How do we clear this buildup in the pipes?
2. The new water we put in to refill will be hard right off the bat- it's just what we have here in CA. Can anyone advise how to reduce and manage this hardness going forward?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

What is the CH of your tap water?

I have never seen a build up like that in the pipes before. If you keep your pH under control and compensate for the high CH, the scaling in the SWG should be greatly reduced.

I had this issue with my above ground pool. My cells were requiring cleaning every week. Took a water sample to the pool supply place and I needed dry acid to balance the ph and alkalinity. After i gotg that balanced no mor problems
We don't recommend using dry acid, stick with muriatic acid. Also, I would suggest you stop trusting pool store testing
