Conversion from DiChlor to Liquid Chlorine complete!!

image.jpg

Pool was maintained at a FC of 4 all day. Tank will hold enough to last about 3 to 4 weeks between refills. The modification was under $100. I will post full details, pictures, and videos in another thread. Just give me a little time. My job keeps me from home 12 hours a day on weekdays, then my business takes up my weekends, then home chores, my technical video blog, and of course pool time now. So, when bad weather stops the pool time, I'll work on the details.

Bruce? When do you sleep?? One busy man that does things the RIGHT way so it would take a little longer.

I can't wait to see the details. Will you please post on this thread when you do have time to write it up. That way I will be sure to see it.

Hey. Just wondering how your pool is doing. Update, please!

It's doing freaking awesome, thank you very much.

Maintainence has been the easiest it ever has in the 8 years I've had it. It is always crystal clear, even after storms. My liquid chlorine system is working perfectly. Depending on usage and storm debris, I am going through between 1 or 2 gallons a week. I've not had to up pH once since I've dumped the DiChlor. I just could not be happier, and I'm SOOO glad I found this site. Friends have been to the pool, and notice the water right away. Every guest has commented how great it looks, and ask what we did. My wife just says that I have become a "pool chemist" with my new testing kit, and asks me to check the water while the guests are there, so they can see. I check, and always reply with "the water is perfect".

I still plan to do the videos, but I've been extremely busy, and just have not had time. But, they WILL get done.

Great to hear!!!! You did an awesome job!

I have to ask... Have you broken down and told your wife that sodium hypochlorite is shock, is bleach, is shock? And then the borax conversation? Otherwise, Swampwoman and I will be there. It would be worth the trip to see her expression!!!!!

Well, I had the bleach/liquid chlorine talk with her when I first found this message board. That was when she told me "You are not putting BLEACH in this pool". Since then, I have not "had" to put any bleach in. I already had about 20 gallons of 12.5% LC, in the garage, and then I went out and got several more gallons when you told me about the Menards buy 1 get 1 free sale. So, I still have 6 gallons in my tank, and another 4 in the garage. At my current consumption rate, that will last me over a month.

If I can find bleach at the right price, I will not hesitate to put that in, and tell her later. But, even at $3.99 for the 12.5% at Menards, that is still a good price, and I may just keep buying that. There is always plenty there. I went looking for the 10% $2.50 gallon at Walmart, and they had 1 gallon on the shelf.

I have not had to add Borax since I finished my SLAM either. All that has gone in the pool since the SLAM was the LC, and Muriatic Acid. My pH keeps rising, and I add that to keep it in line. My TA started at the 120 to 130 range. Now, it is around 100, and my pH is not rising as fast. I also turned my return jets more toward the bottom, so it doesn't ripple the surface as much. So, my acid consumption should go down too. Way better than when my DiChlor was keeping my pH very low, and I was always fighting to raise it.

I also clean my cartridge filters with TSP, as suggested on this site, and I've got great pressure on those. Easiest pool maintainence EVER this year, and low cost. If I had more friends with pools, I would tell them to GET ON THIS SITE!!!

I LOVE TFP, and LOVE having a TF Pool!!

Great setup and systematic approach you have going on there. This has been a very interesting thread. I've heard people say the tarp exchange method doesn't work, but I sure as heck can't figure out why! It looks brilliant to me done as well as you did it. Thanks so much for all the effort you put into sharing your experiences and success :)

I wish I were using chlorine at your rate! I cleaned out my lights on Thursday (not much visible stuff), but I am using like 3.5-4.5 ppm a day. I'm trying not to slam....

Anyway, if you do need chlorine, Great Escapes has 12.5% for $2.50/G. Best deal out there.

This is how I'm doing it......

I found this awesome site on-line called TroubleFreePool.com. I made a bunch of friends there, and they taught me how to get my pool perfectly balanced. Once balanced, I'm using minimal chemicals, and the pool is awesome. You should give it a try.:laughblue:

Best post of the weekend! :-D
