Pool Company Recommendations Chicago Northwest Suburbs?

Can anyone recommend a pool company for opening/closing for an inground pool in the Chicago Northwest Suburbs? We have previously used Quantus Pools and they are absolutely the most pathetically-run small business to have ever existed.

Opening our new to us pool for the first time! Unveil the swamp!

Menards up here sells 12.5% for 3.99 per gallon and they're often on sell for 2.99. Sometimes they go on sell for 1.99 per gallon (and I buy like 24 of them lol). That's the best I've seen (although I'm too lazy to look much lol).

Opening our new to us pool for the first time! Unveil the swamp!

That is how mine works. We don't even have an option to turn off the spillover unless I went and turned the valve manually (wish I did...need to find out how to reprogram the JVAs/AquaLink for that). Our pool has an autocover so I actually dislike the spillover since it carries debris the...

Opening our new to us pool for the first time! Unveil the swamp!

Too true...their prices are pretty ridiculous. Most of the pool services around here seem to be overpriced and terribly-managed. The spa jets you can buy online...they're just self-contained plastic pieces that screw in. Measure across the openings to get the size. I've replaced several...

Opening our new to us pool for the first time! Unveil the swamp!

Amazing results! This has been a very cool thread for me because our pools are very similar. It was most likely built by Barrington Pools (that blue sea horse on the stairs is their logo...I recognized it immediately as mine is the same). They probably have records about the original...

Received estimates to repair 20'x40' foot, 50 year old concrete pool. Advice needed.

Don't assume that removing the pool is cheap...it can be very expensive depending on local codes. Some areas let you just demo it into a pile set down in the hole and fill it up with dirt, but others will require some or even all of the material to be removed. It is not necessarily a cheap...

TFPC is Actually Kind of Boring...

That is pretty similar to my sister-in-law...her response when I made some tiny comment is "oh so you work at a pool store now huh?" Whatever...not my money. My bro says they use these packs of chlorine (containing trichlor) and I ran the numbers and they are paying 4 times as much for...

TFPC is Actually Kind of Boring...

Out of pure curiosity, what are his/her reasons behind their refusal? Just stubbornness?

    CYA overdose?

A few things... First, you may have simply gotten a CYA-heavy sample because it is not fully dissolved and distributed...especially if you took the water sample from near the return it is hanging on. Second, this is why it is common advice not to do major changes in one pass; you probably should...

    TA and pH

The general rule is "If your PH is consistently high, then lower your TA. If your PH is consistently low, then raise your TA." Do you have a lot of sources of aeration that could be causing the PH increase? Any spillovers, fountains, waterfalls, etc?

    Bubbles After Splashing

Before a recent drain/fill of over 2/3 of my water, nothing you could do would make bubbles...the pool had CH around 700. My dad even commented how it "doesn't foam" like the pool we had as a kid. With new water our level is around 325 and we have the bubbles again. Kids like bubbles so...

    No more stabilizer....

As already pointed out, you can update the title by editing the first post...but also yes, even if it's unrelated it's ok to ask in the same thread that was your thread...the history is very helpful to those trying to help. They'll notice because it will have new unread messages and will pop...

Is is safe to leave the pool at shock level until it's cold enough to close i?

In DFW does it get "cold enough" to close it? I mean you could just winterize it and close it at anytime if you wanted. I think the cost of maintaining SLAM level for months until its cold in Texas would be a far bigger concern than the safety. If you have active algae waiting to take over...

Out with the pool store in with the intent heros?

+1 This thread needs a progress pic after that "before" pic of a true swamp.

    No more stabilizer....

Your signature says the pool installed 7/11....so we're guessing it is indeed fresh new water. As an alternative to using actual stabilizer/conditioner/whatever, you could just add chlorine via dichlor which is commonly sold as "shock" chlorinating granules. With a CYA of 0 if none has been...
