construction method - is this really the right way?

The gunite crew shaped the inside of the wall, it is great, straight, plumb, no problem. The outside of the wall was never touched, the forms were left on with the pegboard warped and twisted. Maybe pegboard always does that, maybe there wasn't enough support, I don't really know. I'm just...

construction method - is this really the right way?

Interesting, thanks for the reply. Did it get shaped afterward, like AZHeat suggested below, or did the pegboard hold straight? Do you remember what spacing they used for the support boards?

construction method - is this really the right way?

Thanks, that sounds sensible. They did shape the inside but left the forms in place on the outside, with the pegboard still wired in place.

construction method - is this really the right way?

I'm a little concerned about what I saw my PB doing to the gunite shell, could anyone comment on whether this is normal building practice? The design had a short, straight vertical wall above grade, like you would have around a conventional gunite above-grade spa, only straight. I expected the...

    in-ground pump vs above-ground pump

I'm building a partial above-ground pool and currently researching pumps. I'm looking for the difference between above-ground and in-ground pumps. My water level is going to be above the pump, like an above-ground pool, so self-priming is not a concern. The pool is plumbed like an in-ground...

I'm looking for some ideas / views that I may not have considered for a new pool build south of Houston, TX. Sorry for the length, there are several questions in here; I'm finding conflicting data and would appreciate some independent expertise. I prefer the feel of a vinyl liner or tile to a...

    Lining with tile

I'm looking at lining options, and really wanting something smoother than plaster. I have heard that adding a vinyl liner to a gunite shell is a bad idea, so was wondering about tiling the entire pool surface. Is there a reason it isn't done often? Does anyone know of a good reference on how...

    newbie question on pump efficiency

Getting lots of useful information from this board. Thanks. I have some confusion about pool pumps. From what I am reading, the variable speed pumps are much more efficient than the two-speed pumps, which are more efficient than the single-speed pumps, but the typical explanation – that the...
