The ozone tubing was just forcing air into the system correct? Switching to the cap should change anything else?

I have read, and totally agree, that ozonators are not necessary. My barb broke and I am looking to cap it off. Do I need to drain my filter or should the pump be on? I could only find information about changing this out on a spa and closing valves. Since I don't have a spa, I am not sure about...
