The battle between the pool, the tree and me

numberonenole, I have a lot of pine needles also. The inside of our PoolSkim net was sewn very roughly and would catch a lot of stuff. Someone else on TFP suggested to turn the net inside out so that the rough sewing would be on the outside. This helped out a lot with cleaning. Now I just...

pH Dropping, TA Increasing and Burning Eyes

flyboy, Your cover is preventing the sun from destroying any chlorine. I'm not surprised that you are using very little chlorine - and hence have to make very little chlorine. Regarding pump runtimes: I only run my filter pump for 3 hours per day in the summer - 1.5 hours from 9:30 AM to...

Help! Can't keep chlorine level up.

Frog, The UV radiation in sunlight will consume chlorine. Re: $3 per gallon of 12.5% chlorine We pay $7 for 2 gallons of 10%, so our $3.50 per gallon of 10% is a little bit more expensive than you are paying. Your kit can not read this high. You are going to need a kit that can do...

Am I missing something or is my local pool supply confused?

shooter57, Assuming a high CYA and an incipient algae bloom, the above advice sounds just about right to me.

Please, help me choose automation (with pics)

polyvue, Good points you have made. Here is a cost comparison that I put together in June 2007: The Hayward PS-4 (and PS-8) listed above are of an earlier version than the PS-8 (and PS-4) that Polyvue mentoned and did not have the pH adjustment. Also, I don't believe any of the above prices...

The battle between the pool, the tree and me

+1 on the PoolSkim. Best $90 or $100 I've every spent on the pool. This little beast actually works 5-10 times better than my built-in pool skimmer.

Please, help me choose automation (with pics)

dmj4, I forgot to mention that you should check the wire size coming from the house main panel to the existing GE pool panel. Depending on the wire size that was ran, it might not do you any good to go to a 100 Amp or 125 Amp pool panel.

The battle between the pool, the tree and me

Sorry to hear of the problem with your large tree. We have redwoods near our pool that drop debris year-round, especially after the wind comes up, so I can really sympathize. How much of your debris sinks to the bottom as compared to floats on the top? Does your skimmer do a very good job of...

    New gunite & water

Bruce, Beautiful work that you do! I think it would be interesting to see some other pools that you have done. And maybe you can help TFP with some pool, equipment, and deck specifications that could help people about to sign a contract for a new pool.

Do you still have problems with your Liquidator?

Sabot, How often did you have to add the extra chlorine? Daily? Weekly?

Are 12v lights safer than 120v?

I think that 120 volts pool lights are every bit as safe as 12 volt pool lights. This assumes that both kind of lights are installed properly and to National Electrical Code standards. With an improper installation, even 12 volt pool lights could be fatal.

Freshly installed Liquidator, and some problems

landrick, Ummm, I'm confused. The pool service works for you. They should clean the filter by whatever criteria that YOU set up. If they don't agree to this seemingly simple request, then it may be time to find a new pool service.

    Buying a used AGP

Wow. That was an impressive move. How large is this deck? And what size trailer did you use? I'm still wondering how you were able to get the deck up onto the trailer in the first place? I'm actually suffering withdrawal when this thread isn't updated every couple of days!
