SLAMing and Chlorine level went TOO high!! WHY??

Exactly. That's why I'm maybe wondering if my reagents are bad?? or what is going on. I don't think I'm testing wrong? I'm doing it the same exact way I did the first year with no problems.

SLAMing and Chlorine level went TOO high!! WHY??

I have 2 fountains that mix the water real good. I do have an old pressure side cleaner that usually stays in the pool and runs every day.

SLAMing and Chlorine level went TOO high!! WHY??

We don't technically close the pool, however, it does get neglected somewhat. It had developed some algae and the water was cloudy. A few weeks ago, I tried just cleaning it out real good, cleaned the filters, and balanced the chemicals etc. but the water still looked cloudy.

SLAMing and Chlorine level went TOO high!! WHY??

Some of the reagents are 2 years old, some are 1 year. Good to know about the CYA. I figured since it was smack dap in the middle of 40 and 50

SLAMing and Chlorine level went TOO high!! WHY??

Living in North Texas the weather is warming up! I am trying to "open" our pool. I started to SLAM yesterday. I vacuumed the pool by hand, cleaned filter and tested chemicals. Which were: FC 5.5 pH 7.8 TA 60 CYA 45 I added acid to bring the pH down to about 7.2 According to the SLAM/CYA...

Too soon to "open" and balance chemicals? North Texas!

Thank you for this information! I have a question though..I know about the sock method to add cya, however it takes for ever to dissolve. I've heard of people dissolving cya in a bucket of clean warm water that disbursing evenly throughout pool. Is this an OK thing to do instead? If not, why?

Too soon to "open" and balance chemicals? North Texas!

I was worried that it would take forever for the CYA to dissolve, with that water temp. Can I pre dissolve in a bucket or something? Or maybe heat the hot tub a little and do the sock method in there? Should I not SLAM it yet?

Too soon to "open" and balance chemicals? North Texas!

I live in north/central Texas. Our temperatures are starting to warm up a bit (60s-70s). Its way too soon to swim, however, my pool has been neglected all winter, is full of leaves/dust, and somewhat cloudy. We have a spill over hot tub that we use frequently. So, I want the chemicals to be...

    Chloramines!!

It must be CC. So let's say I have .5. What would I have to do to lower it?

    Chloramines!!

I am very low on chlorine today. I forgot to add some yesterday (I worked all day). So I am definitely adding more tonight. I tested for CC. When I added the R0003 I dont think it turned pink, if it did it was a VERY slight hue. However, after swimming today, everyone's eyes were irritated.

    Chloramines!!

I am maintaining my FC/CYA level. How do I test for CC?

    Chloramines!!

Recently, everyone's eyes are getting irritated after swimming. I read that it could be due to chloramines. How do I fix this? Water is clear, chemicals are balanced.
