    CYA shelf life?

Lol, I just loaded a sock with 3 more pounds. Think I'll order some new test chemicals, they're holdovers from last year.

    CYA shelf life?

Before I left on a trip 10 days ago I tested my pool, and added 11# cya as recommended. I got back yesterday, and completed another full test. (I am the primary pool geek of the house. Happy the rest of the family remembered to add chlorine daily). I realize some of the CYA may have been...

    Effect of ash?

Hello, It's been a couple years since I have been here (a good thing, in my opinion). But this year seems to be more challenging. With all of the wildfires that have occurred here in northern California, we are having a hard time getting the pool to STAY clear. We can get it there for a few...

About that Dragon from last year

When I first found this forum last summer my pool was pea-soup green ("Time to slay the dragon" 9-4-13) Life was not good. But I listened to the senior members of this forum even when they chewed on my behind :whip: I bought THE TESTKIT ! :testkit: and learned how to use it consistently. I...

    Time to slay the dragon

We had a three day long wind storm a couple weeks ago that dumped a ton of sand into the pool. Very irritating, because our clarity had improved to six feet. So before leaving for Thanksgiving, we vacuumed the pool as best we could, dropped a couple of floaties in the pool with trichlor pucks...

    Time to slay the dragon

Haven't posted for a couple of weeks, figured it wasn't productive when things are just plodding along. But, there is good news to report. We ordered the poolskim a couple weeks ago. As you may recall, due to a known plumbing leak, we abandoned the pool system and built our own to get through...

    Time to slay the dragon

Time for our weekly update...Sunday at 5:30 pm. We vacuumed to waste earlier today. Knowing I stirred up the pool and needed to add water I added a gallon of 10% bleach. Forgot to factor in the reduction in CYA that would come with fresh water so I didn't need to take it to 22. FC 22 CC 0.5 TC...

DE Filter "Cleaning Tub"? (and need assistance)

Can't help with the filter information. However the collapsible container is probably just a collapsible garbage can or garden waste container . Great for RV trips too! $15 at Home Depot. Sent from my KFJWI using Tapatalk HD

    Time to slay the dragon

Aha! Found the source of confusion regarding the shock level with a CYA of 45. It was The Pool Calculator! With CYA set to 45, it says the shock level is 16. If CYA is 60, then it say 18, and at 70 it finally says 20. I may be a noob, but I hate making simple mistakes! Sent from my KFJWI using...

    Time to slay the dragon

In response to both linen and dmsattelberg A. I am out of town for business 3-4 days/wk. So my husband has to deal with the pool while I am gone. He does the best he can, but has some physical disability so some days are not so good. At the very least he added a gallon of 10% bleach each day I...

    Time to slay the dragon

While I was at work this week my husband did not do any testing but added a gallon a day off bleach, because that is about average for what we have been using recently. Between the north wind blowing, and the "new" bleach we bought last weekend, the FC dropped a bit today compared to where I...

    newby in Walnut creek, CA

Although Mt. Diablo gets an occasional dusting of snow during the winter, Walnut Creek is lower in elevation and rarely gets snow. It will freeze every now and then and the local media does a good job announcing freeze warnings. Being in the Bay Area, though, you will get a fair amount of rain...
