Let’s see your water after removing winter cover!! **RESURRECTED FOR 2025!**

Opened today. Water is 54. We have a mesh cover and a zillion trees, so it's always murky, but this isn't as bad as some years. Thanks to TFP, it will be clear before it's warm enough to swim. In the meantime, we'll do pressure washing, flowers, and patio furniture---if it ever stops raining...

Let’s see your water after removing winter cover!! **RESURRECTED FOR 2025!**

Yours looks a lot like mine. Never fear! It will clear up lickety-split. Do you have a mesh cover? I do. It's still in good shape, but I'm considering switching to a solid cover when it's time to replace.

I am eagerly watching this month's photo contest for a virtual escape from temperatures in the teens here in Ohio. 🥶

    Replacing valve handles

I'm late to the party, but could you contact the builder? When I lost a decrepit valve handle last year, the builder sold me a replacement handle (red Praher one like JamesW posted) for $1. We have a relationship with them because they've done a liner replacement and do our closings, so they...

    Confused.. CYA numbers

Hi wyckoffpool! Take it from a Wyckoff, NJ, native, you’re in good hands here! (I live in Ohio now but I grew up as a Coolidge Cougar.) One thing: Keep your pump running 24/7 until your water is clear and balanced. Once you get your chemistry sorted out, you’ll be back to having a pretty...

    New liner and fill

Hi! Congrats on your new liner! Using tablets to raise CYA can take quite some time. Instead, the usual recommendation here is to use granular stabilizer (CYA) to get you to a level of at least 30ppm for non-saltwater pools and 60ppm for saltwater. Learn more here: Free Chlorine and Cyanuric...

water escaping when pump is off so pool will not prime on restart - determine source?

Hello Johny, Welcome! I think having a few photos would help. Can you post photos of the equipment pad and one showing how much higher your pump is from your pool? I'm not the person to talk to about equipment, but having pics and all the info will help people with more experience give you...

    Adding timer

Greetings! I don’t know much about salt systems, but is your pump is a single speed or variable speed (VS)? In your situation, I think I’d be inclined to use a VS pump on a lower setting and let it run 24/7. That way you have a steady amount of chlorine being created and you are maximizing...

I knew I was Pool Stored when...

It’s maddening that the best thing Leslie’s has to offer is a plastic squeeze bottle. (And it is good. I really love mine.) But it really captures the whole concept of being pool stored. “Free” testing!!! Hahaha.

Waterline Tile with Picasso Blue - Pool Designer Thoughts

I think you will find that people around here are big advocates of waterline tile for various reasons. I always think it looks pretty because it gives a pool a really nice finished look. It probably also looks nicer long term because it's easier to keep the tiles looking good instead of trying...

Need to SLAM, but Failing to Register CYA

Hello hello, You’re in the right place. A good test kit is like a secret decoder for your pool. While you’re waiting for yours to arrive, create a signature so folks here can see what equipment you have. For filtering in particular, that makes a difference. I also recommend the Pool Math app...

    Storage of Pool Items

If I were storing floats outside, I'd get a second box or a cheap laundry sorter with three mesh sections for noodles, kickboards, and smaller floats. There are also over-the-fence mesh sling hammocks for floats and noodles. I've also seen some cool DIY PVC versions of these, which store your...
