Any risks to upgrading motor size?

Thanks for the helpful info guys! I may have dodged the bullet for now - looks like the motor wasn't wired in as well as it should have been, one of the wires had worked it way off the lead. Everything's up and running for the moment... Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Any risks to upgrading motor size?

I've got an inground pool that's somewhere around 16,500 gallons and currently running with a Hayward Super II, 3/4 HP pump. I'm pretty sure the motor's dead and I was looking to replace it myself. I've been told I need to move up to at least a 1 HP motor... But then the stories start changing...

why is water coming back up through the skimmer?

jroddvette: I had similar problems with my inground pump when starting it up this year... I had a couple of small leaks that were keeping the pump from reaching full prime. After fixing those, I cracked open the lid on my pump's filter basket to purge the air from the system. That seemed to...

    Creative Solutions for old returns?

Thanks for the advice Reebok and Water_man... I had tried a couple of options but hadn't considered cramming PVC in my returns. It turns out 3/4" pipe with a 45 degree elbow on the end fits in there like a glove. No glue required so far. A dose of clarifier and 48 hours later, the pool's...

    Creative Solutions for old returns?

Basically... I'm looking for any solution to be able to direct the water flow to improve the pool circulation. The local pool stores and hardware stores have done their best to help, but no one's been able to find anything that'll attach to the plumbing that I've got. About the only idea I...

    Creative Solutions for old returns?

That's the best I can do from the office with a cell phone camera :) I'll get some better ones once I get home, and attempt to get a picture of one of the ones in the pool where you can see the threads. I haven't been able to break the two attached pieces loose yet, which would make my life...

    Creative Solutions for old returns?

Hey guys and gals.. Still working on clearing out the pool... One of the last issues I need to address is poor water circulation. On the deep end, the pool goes down 9-10 feet, but the current returns are only circulating the top 2-3 feet worth of water. I've got an old, poured concrete pool...

    Cloudy Pool... Bad paint?

Hey guys and gals! Bought a house with an old-school, poured concrete in-ground pool last year. Apparently, the previous owners did us a "favor" by slapping a fresh coat of paint on it. Towards the end of the summer, we noticed our feet were picking up a nice aquamist color anytime we used...
