Use of rainwater to dilute cya

Hi there, The last 2 seasons I have been using 12 pct bleach to maintain chlorine. Everything is great but I’m not a big fan of buying bleach all the time. A week ago I installed a 550 gallon rain barrel that collects rain from my roof. The barrel has line that can be turned on to feed water...

Is my chorine feeder valve plumbed backwards ?

Hi Guys, I rarely use my tab except when going on vacation for week or two. I'm wondering if the valve is installed backwards because when I just got back my chlorine levels were really high. I had the feeder set on number 2 ( 5 is max ) and chlorine was very high when getting back. Level...

Is there chart or formula that shows relationship between CYA and %FC loss per day ?

I'm looking for a chart that would show the CYA vs %FC loss per day, given say water at 85 degrees, and in Texas with full sun on pool. The reason I'm asking is I want to confirm my CYA testing is ballpark and I'm getting the expected loss.

Fertilizer from wind in pool , need to be concerned ?

Am using Taylor 2005. ( I know I should upgrade for better cc testing ). Water is clear and I can see a few of the smaller fertilizer granules at pool bottom, but not many. FC 5.0 PH 7.6 CC 0 ( this hard to tell, could be 0.5 ) CA 150 AK 110 CYA 40

Fertilizer from wind in pool , need to be concerned ?

The lawn care guys fertilized my lawn last week, it was pretty windy and some fertilizer blew into pool. The water testing looks good, but should I be concerned and take any preemptive measures ?

Why is ideal range on test strips so low for FC

Should I worry about 5-8 on high side ? Reason I ask is I have dog that drinks from pool and my two year old will drink on occasion from pool despite our best efforts to stop her.

Why is ideal range on test strips so low for FC

This I where I'm aiming. Last year I kept it around 40 and would take fc to about 4 each night. it worked pretty good, no algae but I would lose lots of fc.

What would happen with very low cya and only adding bleach in evening ?

It is well known that chlorine is much more effective when cya is low. What would happen say if cya were 0 and fc raised to say 1.0 each evening using bleach after sun went down ? The lack of cya would make the chlorine very effective overnight, during day sun would rapidly drop fc. would...

Why is ideal range on test strips so low for FC

Thanks Jim/Dave, I think then people get in trouble with algae that use pucks and the strips. Everything looks okay to them based in strip ideal level, but the fc needs to be much higher as they build cya. Im using bleach. For me the big problem with pucks is need to drain on occasion. The...

Why is ideal range on test strips so low for FC

I wouldn't doubt it ! With all these Aggies flags around here I would think A&M invented everything ! Just been in area for about a year. Moved here from Pennsylvania ! Decided there is no way we could take the heat without a pool !!

Why is ideal range on test strips so low for FC

The ideal range shows 1 to 3 on test strips for FC. What rational is this based on ?
