New borate drop test at piscines-apollo vs. test strip

I did not figure for that. Keep in mind I'm not a chemistry major. As for the drops of R-0009, I used Pool Math, some extra calcuations and head scratching, and 0.437% HCl as in this post to figure up the pH drop. For a little better explanation: I used the "metric system", starting pH 7.6...

New borate drop test at piscines-apollo vs. test strip

The only reason I calculated the drops of R-0009 needed is so one can do the borate test starting at the same pH level of ~6.0 for consistancy, which is a yellow color with the dye. My TA was 60, now it is 90 because of my high TA fill water so now I can consistantly test starting from 6.0 by...

New borate drop test at piscines-apollo vs. test strip

I followed the directions above to test my borate level. My test results: FC: 7ppm CC: 0ppm TA: 70ppm CYA: 50ppm pH: 7.5 CH: 325ppm Borate: ~ 50ppm Temp: 84F 1.) 50ml sample. 2.) 2 drops of R-0007 dechlorinates 8ppm FC. 3.) 10 drops of BTB 0.04% to get a pale blue. 4.) 9 drops of R-0009 to...

    R-0009 sulfuric acid .12N

    Ok, I see.

    R-0009 sulfuric acid .12N

Thanks for updating the instructions. I also was wondering why you couldn't add BTB before adding R-0009 to visualize the yellow transition. The proteam supreme test instructs the user to add more acid (R-0009) after adding BTB if it does not turn yellow, if I'm reading it correctly, so I assume...

    R-0009 sulfuric acid .12N

Thanks for clarifying. The borate drop test thread is kind of hard to follow and understand. I've added 50 ppm borax to my pool and am awaiting my BTB and mannitol powder to try the test. I do understand how to do the test but there was some things left unclear, such as: 1) Adding more R-0007...

    R-0009 sulfuric acid .12N

Just thought, there is more than carbonate alkalinity involved in "Total Alkalinity". Not sure my question above makes sense now.

    R-0009 sulfuric acid .12N

Well that certainly makes sense thinking about the 25ml TA test. So if you have a TA of 100, you need at least 10 drops of R-0009 to remove all of the carbonate alkalinity from the sample? That should move the pH from 7.8 to ~6.1. Is that a low enough pH level for the drop based borate test to...

    R-0009 sulfuric acid .12N

I use muriatic acid in my pool. I was wondering so I can estimate the pH and TA drop for the R-0009 drops for the drop based borate test.

    R-0009 sulfuric acid .12N

What does R-0009 sulfuric acid .12N equate to in muriatic acid? In other words, as far as lowering the pH and carbonate level, R-0009 = 5% MA?

R-0007 FC drop in a sample size

I did some testing and come up with the following calculations that I thought others may be interested in: R-0007 is thiosulfate, used to lower FC, and is used with the TA test and drop based borate test. Each drop of R-0007 in a 20ml sample will lower the FC by 11.0. Each drop of R-0007 in a...

    CYA Sample Solution (50ppm) Photo

To get 50 ppm CYA in 5 gallons of water it would take 0.033 oz weight of stabilizer, which is probably just a few crumbs.

    CH Test

Yes I had been using the default 3 drops of R-0011L with 10ml water but decided to try an extra drop. My CH test has never just crisply turned from red to blue as far as I can remember. Always have a purple before getting there, at least that's what my memory says. My reagent is getting old too...

    CH Test

For some reason adding another drop of R-0011L seems to help me with the color shift to blue. Is there anything wrong with accuracy by adding another drop? Even thought about adding 2 drops of R-0011L to see what happens.

Martin Resources Arctic Plus Ice Melt - CH increaser?

Bag says "Arctic Plus with Traction Aid". Sounds like it has some sand or something in it. I don't think I would use it.
