Turn on heater from a smartphone?

I built a simple internet temp monitor with an arduino Ethernet and a Hayward temp sensor (I think it's for a salt chlorinator but it's just a 10k Thermistor). This plus a wemo or zwave outlet would probably work n Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Cracked the Hayward Ecostar protocol

That's awesome! I was thinking of attempting the same thing with my Ecostar so I could connect it via Raspberry Pi. Thank you!!

    Stenner Set-up; Cheap and Simple

Excellent - you're going to love the stenner! Your old heater is the same one I had which was similarly trashed (mine was completely rusted through and bypassed with a similar inverted-U tube). I just finished completely replacing all my equipment and plumbing and putting in a stenner too and...

New pump, filter, plumbing and stenner

So I went kind of crazy and replaced all of my pool equipment. The old pump was an energy hog and leaked, the old filter was on its last legs and I couldn't get the lid off, and the water wasn't super clear. Here's the old: Note the disused heater plumbing and pressure side cleaner pump...

    Budget Pool Automation

The EcoStar was cheaper on Amazon, but maybe not in retail stores. Amazon has the EcoStar for $870 and the TriStar for: 908/935 depending on if you want the standalone model or prologic model. The other big advantage of the EcoStar is that it has the timers AND can be integrated with...

    Budget Pool Automation

Good point - I have very expensive power > $.25/kWh, and I needed a new timer, so I figured it was worth it for me (plus I like techie stuff) Compared to my super pump, I figure I'm saving around $90/month in electric!

    Budget Pool Automation

I got my EcoStar on Amazon for under $900 - it was actually cheaper than the TriStar VS, and it's got the built-in timer and the option to integrate via dry contacts (or their datalink protocol if you use a Hayward automation controller). My local pool store said that price was below their cost.

Pulled the trigger on a Stenner, bleach injection here I come...

Very nice setup! I've ordered my stenner last week and am impatiently waiting for it to ship from US Water Systems. Spoiled by Amazon Prime is right! Do you have any info on your solar system? I've been thinking of rigging up something similar myself

New (to me) pool - need equipment advice

I'm so proud of my pool for passing its OCLT! Looks like the SLAM is complete - water is clear, CC .5 or below, OCLT passed! Hopefully will be swimming by the weekend!! Now it's time to decide SWG or Stenner... Replace pump with VS or not, and replace filter with cartridge or leave the sand...

New (to me) pool - need equipment advice

Today was a breakthrough - I can see the bottom of the deep end and the water was completely clear in the spa and shallow end!! Performing an OCLT tonight, current FC is 38, re-measured CYA at between 60 and 80 (60 on the 50% dilute test and 80 on the 100% test), so my new target is 31 assuming...

New (to me) pool - need equipment advice

In doing all of this water testing, dilutions, chemical addition, etc., I've found that having a set of graduated cylinders and beakers to be very helpful. I bought a cheap set of plastic ones from Amazon and would highly recommend them. They're also great for making your home look more...

New (to me) pool - need equipment advice

Thanks! Yeah I love the setting too, it's very private. Of course the downside to all those trees is all those leaves! But I think it's worth it. Now all I need to so is clean up around the pool so when it sparkles the surroundings will too! Replaced the gfci and got the lights working today...

New (to me) pool - need equipment advice

Luckily the Leslie's in elmsford NY had it! SLAM goes on. Fc is 39 and CYA is 84. Tested both with 50% dilution to save drops. Also handy that when you do that with a 10ml sample, drops=1ppm! Here's a progress pic You can actually now see the bottom in the spa and shallow end. Not the deep...

New (to me) pool - need equipment advice

Ahh just ran out of R0871 - may need to make a trip to the dreaded pool store to get some more while I wait for my TF100. Any thoughts on doing FC tests with 50% dilute pool water to save reagent?
