Is this filter too strong? Is there even such a thing?

    Yup... night and day difference!

    upgrading my pump and filter

Yup, going directly to the blue adaptor is the way to do it. It's all about marketing - using GPH instead of GPM makes the number look bigger. 1 GPM = 60 GPH and thus, 40 GPM = 2400 GPH. Schedule 40 & other schedules (Schedule 80, 120, etc) are standard pipe ratings. A sch 40 pipe is rated...

    upgrading my pump and filter

If you really want to change it out I'd recommend the Intex 2650gph sand filter.... it has more than enough power to suck up anything. My Hayward "Wanda the whale" automatic cleaner picks up 1/4" to 3/8" pebbles when teamed with the upgraded pump. Probably the best "bolt-in" fit (no need for...

    My weekend project.

The panel is set in an East-West alignment, the panel is angled to the South and it would have been shaded by the shadow of the house in the afternoon, defeating the entire purpose of the solar heater. It's angled down to capture the max sun during the winter solstice at 33 degrees declination...

    My weekend project.

HOA rules doesn't allow for AGP's, and living next door to stickler HOA Prez (even though our HOA covers only 12 homes) doesn't help either. We had bought and easy set ring pool on a whim on 7/4 and have been having so much fun that we traded it in for a frame pool and decided to keep it up for...

    My weekend project.

The pool is completely in our main back patio and gets full shade all the time, and it isn't covered. Temps remain pretty constant overnight probably because the air never gets much cooler than the pool water for more than 1-2 hours at dawn. Not sure about the board backing. I bypass the panels...

    My weekend project.

Wife & kid kept complaining that the pool water was too cold even at 80 F (yes I live in the Phoenix metro area). Got tired of the whining and bought me a solar heater (EcoSaver) and started building an aluminum frame for it...... Plumbed it all up Temp is now up to 85 F after about 4...

    The mismatched Intex cartridge pumps

Captain? I'm a relative pool noob around here too.

How to connect a SandPro 50 filter/pump to my pool

Regular 3" tabs (don't put more than 2 in there). I turned it down to the lowest setting (2 holes) and turned it down a little more so the two holes are half open. The floating turtle chlorinator is there to maintain the chlorine level constant. I adjust the chlorine levels with liquid chlorine...

Yes.... "Resistance" is the best description of backpressure.

How to connect a SandPro 50 filter/pump to my pool

I love it. It has been working great, compared to the crappy 1000gph A-size cartridge filter that came with the pool. I was cleaning/changing the filters every 2-3 days and that got old quickly. When the filters got clogged the automatic pool cleaner (Wanda) didn't want to work properly. Found...

Nice - that's another part I should look into when modding my pool. -S

How to connect a SandPro 50 filter/pump to my pool

You can use this adaptor from Game that "converts" the pump to a plain nozzle so you can connect a 1.5" or 1.25" hose to the bottom of the Intex wall skimmer http://www.amazon.com/GAME-4552-Skim-Fi ... ex+adaptor -S

    Vacuum suggestions

I recommend the Hayward Wanda/Aquabug/Diver Dave automatic cleaner/vac. It works ok with a 1000 gph pump but even better when I upgraded to the Intex sand filter. Prepare to keep flushing your small filter because it will get choked up with the vacs sucking up everything. I got mine off Amazon...
