Pool habits/routines - Swim, Eat, Repeat!

Absolutely 100% love our SWG and recommend everyone to get one. We have a "cheap" Intex SWG that seems to do pretty well considering how cheap it is. The previous owner used Baquacil and he told me he was spending a significant amount of money maintaining the pool. Knowing that we didn't want...

Pool habits/routines - Swim, Eat, Repeat!

Here's mine: 3x a week i'll head out in the morning and check the FC, PH and CYA, adjust the SWG settings if needed. Usually on the weekends (if our levels look good and the pool is clean), I'll do my maintenance of Vacuum (or throw the robot in for a bit), clean baskets, backwash and add any...

Pool habits/routines - Swim, Eat, Repeat!

Here in Western NY our above ground pool temp was 87 yesterday and we've barely had many days warmer than 85.. We do have a small solar heater (the bubble kind with the black piping) and, between that and the solar cover, it's made such a difference. We are almost religious about keeping our...

Here we go! Starting conversion from Baquacil -> Salt

Update! I think i had some weak bleach - dollar store stuff. I went and bought some concentrated bleach and got it up to 15 FC and had no loss overnight! I followed the rest of the conversion process (added CYA, changed the filter media, etc). My levels are all looking great! We had two...

Here we go! Starting conversion from Baquacil -> Salt

update: I confirmed with the owner (again) that he didn't think he used CDX. Can you test for CDX and/or Baquacil using the Taylor 2006c test kit? I'm still trying to wrap my head around this. I just vacuumed, brushed the walls & backwashed again for good measure even though the pool...

Here we go! Starting conversion from Baquacil -> Salt

The walls and the floor are completely clean. It may be hard to tell, but that water is very clear. CC is at .5

Here we go! Starting conversion from Baquacil -> Salt

You know what? I think I should stop adding bleach during the day. It makes sense that the sun is eating it right up. I'll add at night when the sun goes down.

Here we go! Starting conversion from Baquacil -> Salt

Should i have my solar cover on right now? The pool is in full sun for 90% of the day. Could that be consuming a lot of the bleach? I've added almost 12 jugs more since this morning and i'm still having a hard time getting it above 11 FC. I can't imagine after draining the pool down to 1 ft...

Here we go! Starting conversion from Baquacil -> Salt

Thanks for the reply.. I think you're right. I have to run to get some more bleach. I tested the FC again this morning before light hit the pool and it was around 7 ( I added more bleach). I also tested the CC which was <= .5 The pool is as clear as i've ever seen it (even when visiting...

It's dark here, just checked it again and It's at 7.5. Added another 3 gallons. I can't believe this thing is eating this much chlorine!

As far as I know, CDX was not used - we just bought the house. Previous owner said "no" but he was a pool store "drone" so he may not know. I checked the CYA after the pool was re-filled and it showed 0. I'll check the levels more frequently.
