    resolved! after a significant rain, causing me to drain some water, back wash and add 3 lbs of stabilizer, we are holding! Not sure which variable turned the page, but! thank you, everyone for your input.

    just want to thank everyone for their thoughts... I think the fact that it is soooo clear and beautiful (visually) makes the problem seem less daunting. I will keep testing and keep adding chlorine.

    yes, no chlorine registers approx 20 minutes after each "shock" (ranging 3 bottles to nine bottles...) I do have bioguard silk sticks in the skimmer baskets, as well.

    readings are the same on my home test kit and pool store tests. I will order my own advanced test kit, as advised. I know there was a resource posted here. Will get on that.     Looking for advice regarding my difficulty establishing initial chlorine levels. We opened 8 days ago and the water now appears sparkling clear. Easiest clean up ever (2 days from black/green) to present state, but no matter how much shock (liquid bleach) added, it is gone within 20 minutes...
