BBB method passes the vacation test

I have been using the advice from the good folks here for 2 months. The knowledge base here is superb. I really wanted to see if all my testing and principles that I learned here work when I do not test or add chemicals for a week. I was gone for a week. Shocked the pool to about 16. Added a...

using a lot of chlorine during the day

I had similar consumption before I got the solar cover. I now use about 3 qts (about 3.1 ppm) every other day with swimming and CL target levels between 4-7, CYA 40. I have full sunshine and lots of trees, bugs etc., but I lose the most chlorine between 11.00am and 4.00pm

    Major problem!!

I don't know where you live or what kind of soil you have. In general, if you use the sheeps foot roller of sufficient weight, and put the soil in a minimum of 2 lifts(9-10" per lift), and use soil that is neither too wet or dry, you should have no problems with settling. I would also make...

does this sound right? FC loss

I do not know if there is any such thing as normal, but it was about 3 ppmFC loss due to the sun and 1-2 drop due to the swimming and vacuum etc. for me but at 45-50 CYA and FC of 12 as starting point. It is probably too high for a 90 CYA, but again it may be normal for you and your location...

    Ajax or Softscrub OK?

Hello from another Charlottean on BBB. Any solvent will take the adhesive off. However, as Jason said, Goo Gone or "Oops" will work fine. These will evaporate very quickly and leave very little residue. Try it first and make sure they do not affect the color or sealer of the decorative...

New to pool ownership - Some Questions

Do you have a solar cover? I would be curious to see before and after numbers (FC loss) for your pool. My FC drop during the day was reduced by about 1-1.5 ppm after installing the cover. I feel it helps with the sun and all the visible and invisible debris that the wind dumps in the pool...

Water is very green - Leslie's says "we don't have a clue"

How about vacuum and use "bypass to waste" setting on your filter? Do you have such a setting? RV

Water is very green - Leslie's says "we don't have a clue"

Yes, I second that advise. And, during the pool school, order a test kit if you do not have one. TF 100 or a Taylor K 2006 kit. Can not do without it. Also, need about 2-3 weeks time and about $ 150 worth of chemicals, you should be on your way to TFP.

I think I am on the right track ?

I am no expert, but have been through the frustratingly slow pace of pool clearing that you have. My experience is that things started to change quickly after I vacuumed to waste at least 2 times, added DE to sand filter, and vacuumed normal at least once a day. Then my solar cover helped...

    FC loss after vacuum

Hi guys I am at the final push against algae. My chlorine usage each day has progressively dropped to about 30-40% a day at 50% CYA and almost have a zero Fc drop at night. One thing I noticed while testing in the last few days: Every time I vacuumed the floor, there is a slight increase in...

question about daytime FC % loss

And using the chart, it seems like for a 3-5 FC at 50 CYA, the half life is about 7 hours. So, in a 12 hour day, the loss should be 65 to 70%. It matches what I seem to lose during the day: about 67% at a 4 foot deep pool. And in the chart, it does not seem to improve much at higher CYA...

question about daytime FC % loss

I was wondering about the same issue. FC losses at various CYA levels will be useful. The other option would be to see if covering the pool with a solar cover and a lower CYA is better way to reduce chlorine usage than raising the CYA without a cover. I read in some post that higher FC and...
