CSI vs LSI and effect of a negative CSI on a pool heater?

I'm not trying to run low ph. I did run the AA treatment, a phosphate remover and metal magic, and before all that a bottle of polyquat. At least a few of those suppress ph, right? How to I effectively raise ph while lowering Alk?

CSI vs LSI and effect of a negative CSI on a pool heater?

Howdy group. You have all been a great help for me to learn about pool chemistry and equipment, so I got another question. I had a pool company out today to service my pool heater. It's a typical Raypak style heater. I have been having issues with flakes of something coming out of my returns...

    Pool Opening with high Iron

Well, tis time again in the north. Had the water trucked in yesterday, 13,500 gallons to my 25,000 gallon pool. I continue to have a leak during the winter behind the lights as the water level stops right at the halfway point of the lights. I'll fix that once the water get's warmed up. Added...

    Cloudy water

Bumping this back up. Just did a clean and refill today. Used Ahhsome to clean, sucked out all the excess water and rinsed a bit. New water from hose that uses a whole home metal filter, but it's before the water softener (we have well water). Worked on getting Alk and pH down, added a touch...

Iron staining removal without an AA treatment?

I've been working on reducing the iron in it each year via large refills from a truck (though I'm not convince their water has no iron vs it has been treated and thus tests as no iron); and I did the poly trick when the water was brown. That's not my issue today, the water is clear and the iron...

    Pool Liner wrinkling

Need some help understanding why my liner is wrinkling pretty badly. It has several long wrinkles across the short side in the areas that slopes to the deep end. It also has wrinkles in the corners. We bought this house three years ago with the pool included and until this year the liner had...

Iron staining removal without an AA treatment?

Hey gang. My pool always has a bit of iron in it. I got it mostly under control, but over time I get a bit of staining on the pool steps, lights, jet fittings and skimmer area. Water looks great and has been running well for months with no issues. The last time I though I'd just use a tiny...

    Cloudy water

Hey group. We have a Master Spa, Clarity 7 we bought three years ago. We have not had many issues with it, other than forgetting to add chlorine when we don't use it (I need to look into a salt system). I just refilled the spa yesterday, did the normal line flush treatment, vacuumed it out...

Pool Heater / Heat Exchanger bad???

I'll have to wait to open it up until tomorrow. It's high of 40 with rain/snow today. I don't want to break something and risk freezing. So, when an exchanger goes bad it just starts leaking? No big blow outs or risks of anything worse?

Pool Heater / Heat Exchanger bad???

Thanks for that. I'll dig into it tomorrow and take pictures. However, this thread has similar pics, except the flaking on my (which was the same tubes being what I believe are the outflow tubes) were dark brown / metallic looking. Not even slightly white. They feel like flakes of rust...

Pool Heater / Heat Exchanger bad???

Thanks. We don't have any automation whatsoever. I don't even have a timer (but I'm working on that). I'm not sure I need to be able to change the temp on my phone though. I can just walk five feet and do it. What happens when a heat exchanger fails? Does it burst and water goes...

Pool Heater / Heat Exchanger bad???

If I were going to do a replacement, is getting the same unit the right idea? Or is there a better solution for a home, in ground 18x36 pool with a SWG and well water?

Pool Heater / Heat Exchanger bad???

Update: Estimate to replace heat exchanger: $1650 plus $392 labor. $2180 total with a bypass valve install. Versus $3554 for a completely new heater. OR... $1200 for the exchanger online and I'd have to figure out how to install it myself?

Pool Heater / Heat Exchanger bad???

According to the receipts the prior owner left me, its a Rheem 266 w/Cupro Nickel Exchanger. $2500 installed in 2016. I didn't get a picture of it opened up. EDIT: although the pool guy said it was copper, so I don't really know about the exchanger. That could have been an invoice / estimate...

Pool Heater / Heat Exchanger bad???

Hey group. Hoping someone can check the advise I got from the pool company. We have an inground pool with a pool heater. The heater was making a squealing sound so I called out the pool maintenance company. They showed me that the pump was very hot to the touch and they opened up the heat...
