Ascorbic Acid and Return of Brown Stains

Hello swampwoman, I am the one who experimented with the Proteam metal magic last year. For the last several years I have opened my pool and after shocking, the stains formed on vinyl liner. I did raise the chlorine level when closing last fall but this year when opening, I did not need to...

Me vs. Iron stains - Round 4

I had similar problems last season. My CYA was up over 130 and I had metals which I could not figure out where they came from because I didn't have a problem until the last few years. One place many of us could possibly be getting it from is the concrete around the pool. Mine was reinforced with...

Re: Me vs. Iron stains - Round 4 I used 5 bottles of MM in my 27K gallon pool and the stains haven't reappeared. I also keep my ph around 7.5-7.6 It does say that MM will remove the metals from water if the correct procedure is followed. I still use the maintenance dose to be safe.

Switching Sequestrate from EDTA to HEDP

That's great to hear. I'm very happy with this procedure and would recommend it to anyone with a vinyl pool who first does the sponge test to see if the stains can be removed this way. Much easier than AA if it works, it did for me.

Switching Sequestrate from EDTA to HEDP

Thanks chem geek, I found out the hard way when I originally added metal free and polyquat together and the pool clouded for days until my filter cleared it up. swampwoman, You can start bringing up your chlorine level soon after stains are removed. For me I believe it was the second day and...

Switching Sequestrate from EDTA to HEDP

I would definitely do the sponge test to see if it removes the stains and how much metal magic is needed. You can find the sponge test directions on their web site. http://www.proteampoolcare.com/images/uploads/MetalMagicSpongeTest.pdf

Sounds Good. I hope it works as well for you as it did on my particular type of stains.

Switching Sequestrate from EDTA to HEDP

I'm wondering if the sequestrate is masking the metals Wondering if A sequestrate will mask the metals in pool water when tested?

Switching Sequestrate from EDTA to HEDP

Good Luck Swampwoman, I am very happy the way my pool looks now. I can't get over the test results from two different stores and the cya readings compared to mine. I just finished bumping my DE filter again and it stays up about 1.5 lbs. higher than normal and That is only five days after...

Switching Sequestrate from EDTA to HEDP

My results from using Proteam Metal Magic to lift metal stains from my vinyl pool surface and then removing them from the water. I wanted to try Metal Magic because it claims to not only lift the metal stains from the surface but also remove the metals by filtering them out of the water. I have...

Switching Sequestrate from EDTA to HEDP

Swampwoman, I am in day two of the Metal Magic experiment now. So far I am pleased with the results. I can barely see any of the stains on my vinyl pool. During the day when the sun is out it looks like a new liner minus the fading. But when evening approaches I do notice a slight discoloration...

Switching Sequestrate from EDTA to HEDP

Will be doing it after the Memorial weekend because I don't want to fight cloudy water during this time. The stains are recent not old ones so maybe it will work. Worth a try at least. Thanks, Jim

Switching Sequestrate from EDTA to HEDP

Re: ProTeam Metal Magic Hi Jason, You stated that they are assuming somewhat different usage. They as in ProTeam claim the Metal Magic will remove the stains and also the metal from the pool water if used to their recommendations. No ascorbic acid treatment and ph 7.5 or preferably higher...

Switching Sequestrate from EDTA to HEDP

ProTeam Metal Magic I am about to start the ascorbic acid treatment and I'm a little confused with the amount of Metal Magic to add after the stains lift from the 27k gallon vinyl surface and why they want the ph at 7.5 or higher for best results. The bottle list directions as follows...

    Awesome! Thanks chem geek
