    Solar cover differences

I need a solar cover this year. I have always done blue and we have to replace them about every 2-3 years. Is there any noticable difference between the 3 year warranty covers and the 7 year warranty covers? I am looking at the Dohney website if that makes a difference. That was the last place I...

Anyway to test ph with the taylor kit when chlorine is 22?

We are closing our pool. Before we started the slam process we dropped our ph to 7.4 since we had to add 2 gallons of liquid chlorine. I completed the SLAM process and have tested all my levels except ph because the chlorine is higher than 10ppm. Is there a way to test it with a diluted sample...

    Chlorine levels not dropping

I want to thank you for all the help while I learned how to do the trouble free method. I am happy to report that this is the first year I did not fight pink slim in the pool. I did accidentally let my chlorine levels drop a little too low for my cya levels once this summer and had a small...

Cooler temps can I run on the lower side for chlorine?

How long does unopened chlorine hold its potency? I store in my garage and it doesn't hit freezing temps in there, but it does get very cold.

Cooler temps can I run on the lower side for chlorine?

My pool temp is 68-70* I am running low on liquid chlorine and really don't want to purchase more before closing because by me we can only buy the liquid pool shock in quantities of 4 gallons and only the pool store has them available for the next week before they close. They also charge $10...

    Bad timing for chlorine loss

I do have to ask though. Why would I need to slam if I see dead algae on the bottom?

    Bad timing for chlorine loss

Thanks. I didn't remove the solar cover yet (it was only 70* here today and I am trying to hold my 80* water) I only flipped it back to get my sample. So I will check the bottom tomorrow.

    Bad timing for chlorine loss

I had no over night loss this time. Both last night and this morning are at 15 ppm. I am assuming the full slam procedure is not necessary?

    Bad timing for chlorine loss

We are back the water is still clear. The solar cover is still on so I can't see the full bottom, but from what I did see it just looks like dirt. I put enough liquid chlorine to reach slam levels before we left. Not sure how high it actually got. I tested after 30 mins of circulating and I...

    Bad timing for chlorine loss

They are unstabilized tablets, not sure of the brand, but truthfully they are stabilized with calcium so instead of raising your cya you are raising you calcium which can be problematic as well and I have read on here that the only way to remove calcium is to do a water exchange like you would...

    Bad timing for chlorine loss

We switched to the trouble free pool methods this year. The high cya is from us using stabilized tablets for 3 years and powder shock. We estimate it was over 200ppm before doing multiple partial drains last fall and it started this season out well over 100 close to 200 before draining half the...

    Bad timing for chlorine loss

Thanks. We used to use tablets all the time. (The reason for my high cya we estimate it was over 200). I am not a fan of the unstabilized tablets in my skimmer at all. They gum up the basket so they will gum up the hoses too. I hated the floater because there was always little chunks of of the...

    Bad timing for chlorine loss

Typically if we leave I throw some " unstabilized" tablets in the pool and my 18 year old will check the skimmer and add another tablet if needed. Should I still have tablets floating in there? My 18 year will not mess with the pool beyond throwing tablets in.
