Anyone have an opinion between these two testing methods/tools for CYA? On the left is the familiar tube sold by TF Test kits and the right is the Gucci version I purchased in attempt to deal with my CYA testing anxiety. The small tube uses less chemicals/water but it uses a LOT less reagent...

I thought the scale the right is for Bromide. Looks like I have been reading it wrong, I will give it another look as its not clear to me how this works given the graduated yellow color. Though I am still not sure why it's a good idea to keep two ways of testing chlorine, when DPD is so easy...

You will note that that scale tops out at 5 for CL and I routinely want to treat chlorine levels above that in the summer and I never liked the confidence I had in that test especially as I was learning. And then when I had more experience, I find that test gives me no new information over...

My pump was down for about while before I could fix so I have a very cloudy pool. I started the SLAM process but from recent experience I know it takes about a week of constant pumping for the water to go from very cloudy to crystal clear and that is a long time to maintain the chlorine...

I had my pump off for about a week during storms. I try not to run the motor while it is raining. Turned it back on and I have low pressure. There is a lot of debris from the storm, mostly dead leaves but stayed low emptying all the baskets. I backwashed -- did not seem to help. Left it...

One last question on the CYA powder. The instructions say to super chlorinate the pool and drop the PH before adding the solid to the skimmer (in my case sock). I am working on the Ph, but do I really need to SLAM to adjust the CYA with the powder? Is there some interaction with the chlorine...

I was just there to pick up some liquid conditioner. The sane pool store I usually use does not carry the liquid. I am probably just going to use the powder conditioner going forward.

All the instructions I have seen on CYA say the dot should completely disappear, but I think what you describe is correct and how I have come to do the testing. However, as compulsive as I am about things like this I probably need to buy some of that reference solution now that I know it...

I shook the conditioner it up pretty good. There was a couple tablespoons of sledge in one of the gallons. The bag instructions (Clearview Primo Powder) say to add it to your skimmer after flushing the filter. It is supposed to dissolve inside the sand filter. Would you still advise against...
