    Resurfacing Advice (Tucson)

Geez I can't believe it. My quote in Hawaii is $23,500 for standard plaster and no new waterline tile.

Re-plasterer is suggesting Metamax fortified plaster, can't find anything on it

Previously he suggested Diamondbrite. The cost has gone up so much we said just do regular plaster (still $24k even without changing the waterline tile which we wanted to do because the grout between the mosaics always gets algae even after having it redone previously.) The only Metamax I can...

Pool design help plaster, water, tile color

Well absolutely workmanship and professionalism in Hawaii is in short supply. Living here you just deal with that the best you can, until you get sick of it and move away. There aren't many people who do plastering, and even the ones that are considered good are sketchy. Every person gives...

Pool design help plaster, water, tile color

Those of you who are experienced in designing beautiful pools... what are some of the factors that go into a good design? 1. Plaster color. We want a relatively light pool because of seeing to the bottom and the reflectivity. Currently it is white plaster. Wondering if we should stay with...

Pool design help plaster, water, tile color

Thanks! It looks modern too. So many pool tiles are hideous. That's regular porcelain tile then? How long have you had it?

Pool design help plaster, water, tile color

Porcelain tiles fired to vitrification are also frost proof and submergible, but anyway it doesn't matter in my case because I'm in Hawaii. So the only difference could be the glazing. Has anybody ever taken a regular porcelain tile with a well formulated glaze and seen what really happens to...

Pool design help plaster, water, tile color

My plaster lasted 20 years but I am told the plaster they are bringing to Hawaii now often only lasts 8 or 9 years. It costs a LOT to re-plaster here in Hawaii so it's worth spending a few thousand more for extra performance. Regular plaster about $15k and quartz about $4k more.

Pool design help plaster, water, tile color

Haven't looked yet. What is the actual difference between waterline tile and other tile? Is the glaze formulated a specific way?

Thanks. Do you like it? Know what style/brand they are? Have a picture by chance?

Pool design help plaster, water, tile color

I have to replaster and I want to replace the waterline tile. It is 1x1 glass grid and always looks terrible. I had it re-grouted a few years ago but it still collects algae.* My pool is rectangular, so is there any reason I can't use very long tiles to minimize the grout lines? Like 12"...

Pool design help plaster, water, tile color

I'm in Hawaii and need to replaster. Quartz has been recommended, as the regular plasters don't last too long here. One guy does Krystalcrete and the other recently switched from Diamondbrite to Quartzscapes. (I believe these are all similar products though?) The Krystalcrete guy says not to...

How do you keep your cleaner out of the way?

Are you talking about disconnecting it from the wall? I'm talking about taking the cleaner out while it is still connected. All the pool people have said we can't take the cleaner out. Maybe it is ok if you disconnect it, but that is not feasible because we rent our house half the year and...

How do you keep your cleaner out of the way?

You're not supposed to take them out because it puts air in the system and the pump loses prime. Maybe you have a different kind.

How do you keep your cleaner out of the way?

Just switched to a suction cleaner from pressure and now it runs all day. But it's often in the way when you try to swim etc. I know it should stay in the pool, so has anyone come up with clever solutions to anchor it in place and prevent it from moving around while you're in the pool? We...

"The Pool Cleaner" doesn't stay in shallow end

Just switched to suction and got a POOLVERGNUEGEN "The Pool Cleaner". Seems to work well, but the problem is it isn't cleaning the shallow end. It seems like it turns around too quickly. Just when it starts to head the right direction, then it turns and heads back the other way. I know it is...
