First time inground pool owner as of February 2024. Bought house with pool built in about 2000. Seeking wisdom and advise to self-manage, maintain and upgrade (as needed) the equipment + share my lessons learned.
During summer of 2024, did a "face lift" that included (1) demolishing a cracked and shifted aggregate deck/coping and pouring a new stamped concrete deck with separately poured coping, (2) chipped out the previously painted plaster, replastered with classic white, (3) removed two layers of waterline tile and replaced with Fujiwa 6x6 tile, (4) added step marker tile where there was none, (5) poured a deep end sitting bench that doubles as a step exit and removed deep end metal ladder, (6) replaced shallow end handrail with new and properly grounded S.R. Smith Artisan handrail, and (6) replaced failed/disconnected incandescent uderwater light with Pentair Intellibrite multicolor LED pool lgiht. Replaced old 200 BTU NG heater (which sprang a leak just as renovations started and we were putting skimmer and drain pipes under pressure) with new Raypack 406 NG heater. Replaced old Haywood pump (which failed when we restarted it for the first time at the end of the weeks-long renovation) with new Speck BADU Pro-V variable speed, programmable pump. Removed old pump timer. Please don't ask how much I spent from start to finish!
Previously owned and self-serviced a 14x7 swim spa for 12 years with no hitches.
