Correct pipe cement? Hard to find!

It worked great! It's a bit of overkill for some situations but that's better than risking using the wrong stuff.

Solar cover/blanket best for desert environment in terms of durability?

Thanks everyone! When I take the cover off, I accordion-fold it on the deck (WAY faster with 2 people,) then roll it up and cover it with a silver-colored tarp that reflects sunlight. (I don't have a shady place to put it so this is the next best thing.) Tarp like this...

Solar cover/blanket best for desert environment in terms of durability?

Hey everyone. I have found since moving to the Las Vegas desert that anything plastic gets brittle and is subject to breaking within a couple of years depending on the particular plastic resin and thickness. This happens even if said plastic item isn't ever exposed to sunlight. (It's happened...

    Replace air bleeder screen?

I have a Pentair Clean & Clear 420 and the air bleeder screen (Pentair part #190106Z) has become squashed. No idea how. Is there any benefit to restoring its domed shape either using some kind of tool or replacing it?

Re: How to clean a cartridge filter

For anyone looking for a suitable trash can to soak 4x 105 sq. ft. cartridges (7"W x 26"H each,) Rubbermaid Roughneck 32 gallon model # 2008186 is 15"W at base x 28.5"H and is $15 at Home Depot. About to pick one up for myself. I'll edit this post if it doesn't fit.

Pentair MasterTemp 400 temperature reading wiggling around, causing heater to cycle rapidly - bad thermistor?

I do need to clean the filter. Ordering a new set of Pleatco cartridges today as the bands around my current ones are starting to break.

Pentair MasterTemp 400 temperature reading wiggling around, causing heater to cycle rapidly - bad thermistor?

I got an original, but off of eBay. It looked like it had been sitting around awhile, but still in the sealed bag.

Pentair MasterTemp 400 temperature reading wiggling around, causing heater to cycle rapidly - bad thermistor?

Hey everyone. I just replaced my MasterTemp 400's thermistor in March (old one was reading 126F so was definitely bad) and this one has been working fine all season until this week when the heater started cycling on and off within the span of a few minutes, now down to a few seconds! The temp...

Low CSI target with high CH & high TA fill water? Realistic?

My only conflict now is that my pool water is ~90 degrees and the fill water is at least 10-15 degrees colder...reading the Wiki article doesn't prioritize the drain-from-bottom vs top factors (temp differential, salt/high CH.)

Low CSI target with high CH & high TA fill water? Realistic?

What about switching the fill to soft right away and only exchanging enough to lower CH to the desired point? That should save something like 40% of the water (and the salt & CYA with it,) right? Especially if we stop the pump for a few hours before starting the exchange to let the more dense...

Low CSI target with high CH & high TA fill water? Realistic?

@mknauss I just talked to the RO company who said using soft water in the pool is a bad idea due to chance of plaster softening and easier staining. Of course they have incentive to scare me so I use their service repeatedly, but we already know here that we don't want ALL soft water in the pool! ;)

Low CSI target with high CH & high TA fill water? Realistic?

Oh great idea, Jim! I didn't realize those services existed. I found one here. They charge $525 for up to 30Kgal and there's about a 14% loss to waste, so now I have to calculate what a straight exchange would cost me. (PSA: drain to your sewer cleanout and not the street! This way the water can...

Low CSI target with high CH & high TA fill water? Realistic?

Do you exchange the entire volume?? How much does that end up costing? About how long can you go between exchanges? Won't that end up costing more as I understand they need to "regenerate" periodically which consumes a lot of water? I'm seriously thinking about building a rain catchment...that...

Low CSI target with high CH & high TA fill water? Realistic?

I live in a hot and hard water area of the country. Fill water is 275ppm CH, 7.4 pH, 160 ppm TA as tested from my aerated kitchen faucet (running really slowly to minimize aeration.) Since I now have an SWG (and a calcium ring on the spa tiles,) I'm trying to keep CSI slightly negative (by...

Wrinkly feet! All I did was add an SWG!

No, i haven't been in before the SWG was installed. I am keeping the PH lower now (7.2-7.4) than I did last season (7.5-7.8) to combat scale build-up with the new SWG especially as my CH is over 700. (Though I can't seem to avoid a fading endpoint no matter what I try from the extended...
