    winterizing with a sand filter

A sand filter is a sand filter whether it be on an AGP or IG I suggest trying my method after a few days of gravity draining through the bottom. You're sure are not going to get the volume out the bottom like you would blowing it. Whats the harm in taking the extra step & 5 mins to ensure a...

    First time closing

To elaborate, would you put algaecide in your pool just after you shocked it?? At break point chlorination levels how effective would any chem be being added after. Which is why I use the method stated in the previous post.

    First time closing

If your pool is at shock level when you add other chems they are basically rendered useless.

    winterizing with a sand filter

Just removing the drain plug will not sufficiently evacuate 90% of the water still in the sand filter. To remove the remainder is to use a high volume shopvac to blow the filter out through your backwash line. You place your dial to Rinse then place your vac hose on the line from the pump(leave...

    Winterizing bottom drain in Canada.

The airlock method is the correct way. We use a compressor with an inducer plug then once the air starts coming through we shut the valve. Antifreeze will not help.

    Below skimmer

We drain our pools between 6-8" below the bottom of the skimmer faceplate to allow for water displacement from the rain/wintersnow melt. We add antifreeze to return lines below water by pouring into the return lines then slighty uncrew one till we see some pink seep through then close then we...

    First time closing

Having your water below 70 is fine to close. If you bring your chlorine/Bromine levels up high enough and everything else balanced, drain down your pool to winter level then do a non chlorine shock wait 30 mins/ add your stain prevent wait 30/ then add your 60% algaecide. Then put on your cover...

    Closing an in ground pool

Id like to add an extremely important procedure for those with a sand filter. Just removing the drain plug will not sufficiently evacuate 90% of the water still in the sand filter. To remove the remainder is to use a high volume shopvac to blow the filter out through your backwash line. You...

    Replacing Skimmer Gasket -Help needed

In my first post I meant to say liner not gasket. If the liner is an overlap then yes you will have to take off the top caps on either side of the skimmer then take off the top rail & peel back the liner. If you try to unscrew the skimmer through the cut out you can deform the liner and have...

    Replacing Skimmer Gasket -Help needed

You should have four screws on the wall side of the skimmer. You will have to lower your water to 2 or 3 inches below your trim plate in order to have enough room to unscrew the bottom screws.(a stubby works great) The liner wont sag when you take off the top rail & peel back the section of...

Help for new pool owner (pics included)

If there is any room I would suggest building something to shield the equipment from the sun & elements. The booster pump looks quite new but the motor on the pool pump looks pretty weather beaten. Protected equipment will have a longer life span.
