    Light fixture leaking? - questions

Tough to tell from that new picture if that is truly a seam in the assembly - or just some crud that got there off the coiled wire. Mine has no such uniform "seam" - just some misc crud and scratches. Maybe sand on it a bit and see if the assembly looks to be seamed there? Edit: I just...

    Light fixture leaking? - questions

Yes, potting compound that can flake off over time. Mine does it too and my picture would be similar to yours, except I'm not getting any water intrusion. I have some flaking even though I have used very low power LEDs for years. Might just be fatigued compound, vibrations over time, etc...

    Pool 12v DC Power Supply?

A solid tip of my hat to @Dirk, @Mdragger88 and others on this topic, many thanks. For my part I think Dirk nailed it!! And the referenced ecmag article further nails it, in my opinion. I too have gone down some of those cleaver DIY roads noted herein. I used a cheap 12 volt AC to adjustable DC...

Hayward HP50CL heat pump optimal flow rate ?

Agreed, @ajw22 is surely correct that the flow basically won’t matter much at all. The heater will impart the BTUs and more water flow just means more water at a slightly lower temperature, versus less water flow exiting at a slightly higher temperature. Provided you stay within the GPM flow...

Pool Safe chemical/cleaner for pool cage frame?

I use a 50/50 mix of chlorine 10% from pool supply and water, works very well. That’s basically the same concentration as 5% household bleach (unscented). We know chlorine is in the pool, so no unknown chemicals being dripped in. A pump sprayer works nicely and algae disappears almost instantly...

    Solar cover reel?

Thanks @kul and @Newdude for the humorous replies. I had totally forgotten about the loss of spontaneity. When my dog sees me putting on a swimsuit he can't wait to chase me to the edge of the pool as I cannonball in. I'm sure he'd be off sleeping if he had to wait for cover removal. I also...

    Solar cover reel?

Along with several friends in my area here’s the process we’ve gone through. First and despite others’ experiences, we buy a cover and cut it to size. It’s compelling, seems like the right thing to do. We suffer a little bit on aesthetics – not as pretty as open water but it doesn’t look too...

    Rail Anchor Height Under Pavers

Hi folks - I’m adding a steel rail by the in-water steps of my 16K gallon inground that is surrounded by pavers. I’m sinking two brass anchors on 8” centers into cement I’ll pour to a level just below the bottom of the pavers, so I can add a layer of sand and the pavers will still be replaceable...

Idea for Dissolving CYA Granules– And Nothing in the Skimmer

Several good ideas presented in here, but the sock seems to be the real winner. Since starting the thread over 8 months ago I've been using the sock. I tend to fill a sock about half full and place it in the duck floater feeder near a pool jet and let it soak for a day, or a few days, but...

FPH AC condensor heat exchanger alternative from Aliexpress

I was asked by one of the folks posting in this thread to add thoughts to this ROI/risk/functionality debate (a great debate I think), since I had written several lengthy posts to one of the more ‘original’ FPH related threads based on a few years happily using my FPH. Before writing I reviewed...

Lesson Learned – Rust stains from pool cage screws etc

Here’s an idea to save a lot of time, trouble and cost…. Pool cages are popular in some locales, we like them in FL to keep out things like bugs, leaves & young kids. Over time the hundreds of little sheet metal screws that hold the cage together often rust. I suppose they are seldom made from...

Idea for Dissolving CYA Granules– And Nothing in the Skimmer

I’m delighted with my SWG for many reasons. Among them the idea that I can maintain reasonably low chlorine levels while keeping CYA a bit higher. Many thanks to all the contributors on the topic of CYA & Chlorine relationship – including Ben Powell. Richard Falk (chem geek) and other forum...

Hotspot FPH AC heat reclamation pool heater - a review!

Understood, xr4, good thoughts. Yup, I think the pool covers are a pain from almost every vantage point. They work to some degree, but have so many issues and downsides. And even with a 10 year warranty on a "high quality" one that you manage to cut to fit, clean and retract and reroll...

Hotspot FPH AC heat reclamation pool heater - a review!

There is a wealth of info in that 9 pages, but I'll bite with a quick answer too :-) I agree with Joshii, it won't be worth it. As stated somewhere in the volumes above, I got about 17% savings on AC cost. Knowing what that really saves you means knowing what % of your power bill is due to...

Hotspot FPH AC heat reclamation pool heater - a review!

A member direct messaged me asking about what I used for brains & automation in my FPH system – I thought I would share this update in case it’s useful for others….. I'm not sure if you managed to read all that was posted across what now seems to be eight pages of posts to this FPH review...
